The Swedish authorities could step in and confiscate a cat called Ove and try to get him to breed with a Stockholm woman's cat, after she reported a contract breach and fears her love-sick pet cat will start misbehaving soon.
The plea for help comes after the woman, who lives in Johanneshov, southern Stockholm, ran into trouble shoring up a date for her pet cat with a tomcat called Ove. For unspecified reasons, Ove's owner has backed out of the arrangement, leaving the plaintiff concerned that if a mate isn't found quickly for her in-heat cat, the pet will start urinating on the walls, a behavioural habit the owner claims is irreversible.
The frustrated Stockholm cat owner decided to make a complaint to the Enforcement Agency, an authority mostly known for collecting debts but which also regulates contract disputes between Swedish citizens - including contracts pertaining to animals' breeding life.
"It's not so unusual for us to make these kinds of decisions," Caroline Riderstål, the Enforcement Agency supervisor for the case, told The Local.
Lawyers at the state agency have now ruled in the female cat owner's favour, which in practice means Riderstål's colleagues could march on over to Ove's house, confiscate him, and, in Riderstål's words, "make him available" to the complainant's cat.
"But we of course favour dialogue, and hope they will come to an agreement on how to solve this," Riderstål said, adding that she was sure her colleagues in the law department had taken any relevant animal rights legislation into account in making their decision.
"We came to a decision on a contract basis and such instances crop up from time to time - it can be about anything at all. If a neighbour doesn't move a fence as promised, for example, we move it," she told The Local.
"The cat owner filed the complaint with us because she wanted action."
Yet they’ll do nothing regarding Moslem ‘problems’ in their main cities. There was a FReeper called Western Culture who would always wax poetic about the Swedes and how they are the best country, but Sweden appears to be just another European country at an advanced stage in its indigenous suicide project. They cannot stop Moslem riots, and will arrest you for trying to protect your property, but have energy for cats in heat.
Ha! The USA is heading down this road.

Oh boy. Nothing worse than hearng a cat n heat. Put kitty on a leash, tie to tree, supervise, and watch. In ten minutes, all the boy cats will be doing what comes naturally, and in three to four months she will have kittens.
Or put female kitty in pampers.
I can see this kind of suit for champion horses, but for a cat? This is boggling my mind, I don’t get it. This Ove cat must be the worlds greatest kitteh

If so, I’m missing it too. The complainant should take a swab to Miss Kitty and be done with it.

Neutering is definitely an option, but I’d apply it to the plaintiff.
Why isn’t the cat spayed?
I had one cat go into heat; I couldn’t get on the phone with the vet fast enough. Her behavior was downright embarrassing.
Spaying the cat would be common sense. If any of the parties involved in this story had any common sense there wouldn’t be a story.

I suppose if a stud fee had been paid, the owner of the female would have a good case. But what a name for a government agency!
