I've read that the population of New Guinea is separated by DNA and elevation. This same scientist speculated that as various groups (in prehistory) migrated there the previous occupants were driven (or retreated) higher into the highlands...and, that this seems to have occurred 2-3 different times.
Evolution's "new twist": Neanderthal-like "sister group" bred with humans like us.
. A previously unknown kind of humanthe Denisovanslikely roamed Asia for thousands of years, probably interbreeding occasionally with humans like you and me, according to a new genetic study.
In fact, living Pacific islanders in Papua New Guinea may be distant descendants of these prehistoric pairings, according to new analysis of DNA from a girl's 40,000-year-old pinkie bone, found in Siberian Russia's Denisova cave.
The Latest from the Denisovian Cave work has found fossils and DNA from three different human species. Moderns, Neanderthal and Denisovans.
Futher DNA work on the Denisovians indicate that they bred with Neanderthals and some moderns living in New Guinea and Australia but few others...none of their DNA is found outside the above mentioned areas.
