‘People Think It’s Over’ Spared Death, Aging People With H.I.V. Struggle to Live
New York Times ^ | 06/01/13 | John Leland

Posted on 06/02/2013 1:52:17 PM PDT by jocon307

Steve Schalchlin would be the first to tell you he lives in a time of miracles, and about how hard that can be. In 1995, as his body wasted away from AIDS, he took the limited time in front of him as a challenge: he would write songs, make amends, fill his remaining days with life. And by the end, with his digestive system shut down, his figure skeletal, he was ready to die. Then he won a lottery for a new AIDS drug that had been rushed through the approval process. Almost overnight his health began to return, and with it, another, more open-ended, challenge: life...

Suddenly the future seemed like this long, empty road going toward the horizon, and I felt like, what am I gonna do with my life now?” Mr. Schalchlin, 59, said the other day, still marveling at the turn of events. “I had already accomplished all my goals that I had set for myself. And now I had this endless amount of time ahead of me, and I felt depressed.”

Mr. Schalchlin no longer worries about dying of AIDS. But he has other health problems, more often seen in people 10 or 20 years older: kidney damage, diabetes, chronic fatigue, thyroid disease, partial paralysis in one eye and general weakness that limits him throughout the day.

“I also have a counsin in law dying of ALS...since her late
40’s....not pretty....”

Oh dear, that is really the worst. My mom’s friend died of that. She was the most dignified, even queenly woman. The first clue was she “went off” in a local shop, so bad that they called the cops. At first we thought is was just a menopausal thing (again, don’t bash me) but it was way worse than that. It was all dreadful.

And then not that long after that my brother’s good friend (just a friend) died of AIDS. He was such a little mouse that guy, you really wouldn’t think such a thing would affect him.

And those 2 deaths got to me; but of course there were more to come, sadly.

He sounds like a really fun and funny guy (this communist administration would certainly have given him plenty of fodder!).

I know you’ll always miss him.

Something to consider for your brother (and the other poster with arthritis)is that most of these symptoms (high blood pressure, depression, diabetes, arthritis, and many others) are caused by magnesium deficiency. Mag is alkaline and causes inflammation to subside. It also is necessary for calcium to dissolve and absorb. Arthritis is calcified crystals around the joints.

Take 800-900 mg of mag malate or mag glyinate per day and you’ll see huge strides in general health.

no harshness here

Many people I love have died of aids. I say love, because you don't stop loving them just because they die.

I wish they lived long enough for the cure too.

Yes, and I’m sure we’ve all seen enough “twilight zones” to know how that turns out

Or we can look at NYC right now, and see a mayor criminalizing the sales of large sodas. This punishes the seller, but it's inefficient and rouses public anger. Government health-care enables the government to avoid the hassle and lobbying resistance involved in banning one product at a time and directly punish taxpayers who choose to have one steak too many or one Pepsi too many. It also pits taxpayers against each other in a 'if A is being penalized, B should be penalized too' contest which ends up with more and more private behaviors becoming the business of government.

thank you for posting this... just recently i was wondering about the treatment of AIDS and how people are living with the disease now a days... specifically, i was wondering when treatment started prolonging lives to the extent that it now does...

You are welcome, it is amazing they’ve made such progress.

Via “hot air” I should have given them a tip o’ the hat when I posted. That shows how freaked out I really was.

“If the obese and the smokers have to pay higher medical premiums under ObamaCare because of their “risky behavior,” surely homosexuals should as well.”

Homosexuals will probably get free medical care. The little faggots ought to be paying every nickel they earn to insurance as they wanted “gay marriage” simply to get employer spousal medical benefits. It was during the early 1980s the little fags started contracting and dying of AIDS they decided to demand spousal medical insurance.

Homosexuality is a choice; a lifestyle they practice. It is not a genetic disorder as proven by identical twins where one choses homosexuality but the other does not.

Their sexual perversions know no bounds.
