Microsoft's Windows Phone Is Now Bigger Than BlackBerry
Business Insider ^ | 05/16/2013 | Jay Yarrow

We're not sure if this is a good sign for Microsoft or a bad sign for BlackBerry, but Windows Phone is now the third largest smartphone operating system, according to IDC.

Since we're optimists, we'll say it's a good sign for Microsoft. It's trying to catch up to Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems. It has a very long way to go before it catches either of them, but it had to start somewhere. Perhaps this is the start of the most unlikely come-from-behind victory in history.

Here's the IDC numbers, via All Things D:

Wife & I will shortly be upgrading to the new WP8 Nokia Lumia 928 phones that just came out today from Verizon. They look pretty good, all things considered, and our best fit. Pretty much the same as a Lumia 920, which is AT&T only, but with a few minor improvements exclusive to Verizon.

no issues? Have you not used blutooth with your car? EVERY TIME i get a phone call when/if streaming bluetooth to my MICROSOFT SYNC in the car, it HANGS THE PHONE.

I have updated the Phone. I have updated Sync on the car.

I have found (over the 3 months I have had it) at least 3 different things that hangs it 100% of the time.

Also, the experience (number of touches) to do common tasks is 2-3x iOS or Android.

would that be your first smart phone? if so you will be ok. If you come from IOS or Android you will not be happy unless you are a microsoft fanboy.

I have an iPhone 3GS. I like it. I can’t afford to buy a new phone, nor AT&T. I can get the Lumia for “free” and much less per month.

Unless you bought it on Ebay, it has a warranty. Make em replace it.

google windows phone bluetooth sync issues. It’s not a hardware problem. There is nothing wrong with the lumina.

Why not replace your PC because windows sucks while I am at it.

I love people who blame MS and not Ford, who hired Microsoft and told them what they wanted.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

I got one a couple of months ago to replace my iPhone 4. Aside from a few glitchy little Android things, I like it a lot. I've managed to find Android versions or equivalents for all of my iOS apps. And the eye pain caused by the Retina Display has been banished. :)

Man, you may need to look all that up, I don’t have a problem.

The Lumia 920 works fine, for me.

ALL operating systems have glitches, most of us figure out how to work-around. I don’t hate Windows anything, if I had to use Apple anything, I would hate it.

If your with ATT and you bitch about the 920 enough they’ll likely change it for an iPhone or droid. Damn if I’d keep something I hated.

again, if you use it JUST as a phone it’s OK. Try to use advanced features and it hangs, blue screens, etc.

Nothing wrong with paying for a 1/2 pound brick to just make calls but I want to use my phone for bluetooth, car sync, etc.

MICROSOFT WROTE MICROSOFT SYNC. That’s why it’s called Microsoft SYNC rather then FORD SYNC. Google before you comment.

It’s JUNK.

There is a lot of reviews and forums on 920, I checked em out before picking the 920, never ran into your issues on any.

Sounds like a serious call to your wireless supplier is in order. Good luck.

It’s all over the internet. Just use google.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp8-wpmusic/nokia-lumia-920-freezes/6983cd87-5cba-4635-8e52-4b44abf14631

Basically, if you want advanced features, car/headset handoffs, turn by turn navigation seamlessly integrated with calls coming in, etc you are SUNK with WP8.

If you want to JUST use it occasionally as a phone, it’s OK. But WHY BUY A SMARTPHONE?

Face it, It SUCKS as a smartphone. I know what I am talking about - I have had EVERY smartphone since the ERICSON p800 (that was BEFORE the Blackberry OR the iPHONE). I am a power user of phones, been using bluetooth when there was only 1 phone that supported it.

As a VERY experienced user, I can tell you WP8 is the buggiest smartphone I have ever used. PERIOD.

I’ve got the same Nokia 920 Phone and I love it. Only issue I have is the Battery running out of juice pretty quickly, the same issue I had with my old Android.

My Wife thinks it’s “operator error”, since she doesn’t have that issue with HER Nokia 920.

It did shut down once, when I dropped it on a Cement Floor after it got knocked off a counter about four feet high. I thought I screwed the pooch, but all it took to get it back was the three button reset. Love that Gorilla Glass.

Got rid of the Android. It drove me crazy. I got $60 for it from Gazelle or some other outfit.

Yes, but Ford outlined what they wanted the system to do and accepted the delivered product from Microsoft.

They are both to blame for the lousy results, especially when you compare it to elegant systems like Chrysler's Uconnect2.

But you just want to blame MS and leave Ford blameless.

the same “reason” you “bought” a copy of microsoft windows at work (you didn’t some faceless idiot decreed you MUST use it)

Microsoft wrote SYNC and marketed it to car manufacturers.

Car makers no more should be blamed for Microsoft SYNC than PC manufacturers for bugs in windows....They don’t have a seat at the design table.

I WORK in the industry. I know. it’s how I make my living.

Dude, being a small biz owner, I am that “faceless idiot” that bought Windows.

Now I have this theory about folks that are pure negative and non-stop complaining about something, they aren’t the least bit interested in a workable resolution, only in complaining about “it”.
