Speaking of "Living History," here's related tidbit that truly amazes me. The father of the living grandchildren of President Tyler could have known Mr. Gray.

Former President John Tyler’s (1790-1862) grandchildren still alive

We are not so disconnected from history. The last surviving Civil War General, Adelbert Ames, died in 1933, a year after my 80 (soon to be 81) year old dad was born.

It may seem insignificant trivia to most, but it boggles my mind to think that their lives overlapped, albeit for just a year or so.
