OK... I LOOKED, SEARCHED.... didn't find anything from Dotty. But, seriously... tonight's the OSCARS! Where's our Live Thread??
Which of the Best Picture nominees do you think are propaganda? Argo and Zero Dark Thirty have actually been called ‘right wing propaganda’ by the MSM. Les Miz, Life of Pi, Silver Linings Playbook certainly aren’t. Nor are the others as far as I can tell.
Haven’t watched since they (in the audience—I’m talking to YOU, Nick Nolte!) gave the cold shoulder to Elia Kazan.
Artistic talent means nothing-political propoganda rules.
In other words, that was the year it became sickeningly obvious to me that commies infested hollywood.
“Curfew” won the live action short... which has five really fine films...
Curfew was the only American nomination... it was the story of a young man, about to commit suicide, who is saved by his sister’s need for a baby-sitter... and, the relationship he quickly strikes up with his niece.....
I thought it was the weakest of the bunch... but, it was still good.
My how the mighty have fallen. I didn’t even know the Oscars were on tonight. No idea.
Not a care, either.
I haven’t seen an episode of ‘the oscars’ since the early 80s when it was on as I passed through the room
It's for the tourist.
I see you're from Kentucky.
Thanks for the post. Feel free to continue.
I agree... but, the MIGHTY that has fallen is.. Free Republic. It's been years since we had a server capable of supporting a LIVE THREAD... I've really missed it.
Maybe.. this is GOOD SIGN of things to come... seems to be holding up.
Haven’t seen them, but I gather from comments here on FR that Zero Dark Thirty may be a real picture. Argo perhaps as well.
Have to see both yet though to be honest.
However on balance Hollywood is so breathtakingly biased toward one side, as to be unbearable.
Just worth commenting on. :D
Bread and Circuses.
I have a feeling he's not going to be invited back though.
I almost shut it off after 20 minutes but ended up loving ‘Beasts of The Southern Wild’. I’d give it best picture, actor, and actress. Some might think it’s propaganda for the current administration because it’s about a poor, black family. But the fact is that the characters in the movie are ferociously independent and would detest Obama in reality.
I agree with you. Rarely are Christian themes played out like they were in Les Mis— perhaps ignoring the bad rewarding the good is starting to turn things around somewhat.
I’m still mad that the Twilight series didn’t get nominated for anything. :-)
I was enjoying Liam Neeson’s presentation until he made the comment about the film Lincoln dealing with a familiar topic, congressional gridlock. Grrrr.
Amour wins Best Foreign Language Film
Christoph Waltz was very good in the Robert Pattinson/Reese Witherspoon film, Water for Elephants.
I just wish Les Miz was better crafted. It was a sloppy botch of a great stage musical.
Thank you for your review. It’s on my list to see when it comes to town.
Agreed LOL ... it ALMOST kept me away this year... but, we have a LOCAL GIRL nominated... I HAVE to watch!
I agree. Not to get snarky, but honestly, why is this relevant?
The last time we went to the theater was last year to see Act of Valor, that had all those real Navy Seals doing the primary roles. We loved it precisely because it wasn’t phony.
Oh MY! CZJ singing ALL that Jazz! Ok... I can’t type for a bit...
I love the stage production so much I almost didn’t see it. In the end, I’m glad I did. It was encouraging to see people keep their faith in the face of such intense suffering. And especially for Hollywood to actually celebrate people of God rather than ridicule us.
That “SPLAT!” NYC Freepers just heard was Maureen Dowd hitting the pavement after taking a multi-story nose-dive from her apartment ...
Django Unchained
A great film that you SHOULD go see. It is hilarious!
She was amazing. Truly amazing.
LOL!
I know she will probably win but Silver Lining Playbook was the most boring movie out of all those nominated tonight.
A little lull now... as the “celebrate” past Oscar music.... Jennifer Hudson singing some crap from her movie no one watched...
Do you do this when there is a Super Bowl Live Thread?
Not watching. Current Hollywood? Watching those degenerate cretins, who spit on my values with every breath they take? They can all go burn in hell. I regard them on the same loathesome level as scummy middle-eastern jihadists.
Huh? I've participated on scores of live threads on FR in the last few years. I think I've only seen the site choke up once during that time.
She may be old and cranky, and held together with duct tape and rubber bands, but she gets the job done for the most part.
I agree with you that a serious hardware upgrade is long overdue, and hopefully, John's new installation will make a difference. According to Jim, the server in place now is just temporary until the gear John wants arrives later.
Genisus 19: 24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord:
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
Like, "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp"?
You have serious moral compass issues.
The Academy always overlooks the classy films that ladies go to at the matinee - The Impossible starring Naomi Watts, who did get a best actress nomination, and Ewan MacGregor, about a family seaparated when the 2004 tsunami hit. Heartwarming true story that I’d recommend you see when it’s out on DVD.
Huh.. is RIGHT. I've TRIED to participate in a few. Hopeless, was all I ever got...

Set now from Les Mis of stained glass church windows.
Seriously? You post THAT? And then quote scripture?
Ugh.... crawl back under your rock.
Haters just gotta hate.... ??
I love Family Guy so I tuned in to see Seth MacFarlane. He’s very funny, I’m not disappointed - I love how he’s mocks them all. If it weren’t for MacFarlane I’d skip it as usual.
Standing ovation for the Les Mis medley.
Can someone tell me about the level of violence in the films Lincoln, Django Unchained and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. How violent are they and do they show whips and such.
Pretty terrific rendition from the cast of Le Mis... nice.
Other than Russell Crowe, he was STILL horrid!
Some folks have had trouble commenting on live threads while using wireless handheld devices like cell phones and tablets. Those on laptops and desktops haven't had nearly the same experience during live threads.
That is, unless you're using a dinosaur computer on a dial-up connection. Those folks have also had trouble keeping up on live threads.
A live thread?
It is a four hour show with actors awarding actors for working.
A four hour mutual admiration event.
Lincoln did not contain much violence... the worst was a few ‘After the battle” shot on a battlefield...
I enjoyed that film very much, as did my mom.
Aw, ful singing. N not at all entertaining.
