Super Bowl halftime show may be cancelled for 2014

No halftime show at Super Bowl 2014? That’s the word, according to planners who say the weather may prevent appearances at matchup XLVIII, set for New Jersey.

“It’s because of the cold weather,” said one involved with next year’s Super Bowl planning, in a New York Post report. “It’s not only the acts and the singers, but also the crews that have to put the stage together. … You just can’t assemble the stage and break it down fast enough in the cold.”

My son’s class had a competition the other day to name songs that contained certain keywords. When the keyword was “moon,” he won the team big points with Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore.” His teacher was shocked he had ever heard it let alone knew the lyrics by heart. :)

Thanks for a great story. Had the keyword(s) been "pizza pie", Dean's song would've been a lock!

See...I disagree (and not just because I am a Pats fan!)

One of the things I LOVE about football is the fact they play in nearly any weather...

I think it is great when the weather is bitter freezing, or there is a blizzard, or even, yes...pouring rain.

I can’t stand baseball, they get a raindrop, everyone stops what they are doing and they stare at the sky.

One of the most memorable games in history was the Ice Bowl in Green Bay...

But I do understand. I can dress for the weather, but...I would feel sympathy for those who don’t, and you can be sure there would be a lot of them. It requires experience, planning and the right equipment. So I understand, it would be impractical.

Heh, the last game I went to last month against Houston, it was 45-50 degrees...my wife thinks I am crazy because I wanted a blizzard.

As for the halftime show...I say never do one again. I think they all suck. Or better yet, bring in the Blue Angels, and let them do flybys and an abbreviated show in full afterburner the whole time...:)

THAT would be my ideal halftime show!

What I’ve also found is that most people like to claim that their musical taste is wide ranging or eclectic, and when you ask them what they like they’ll list the names of some pop or rock albums that sold 20 million copies each, often pretentious, pseudo-artistic works favored by non-discerning listeners. I don’t tell them that, but I think their musical taste is rather pedestrian.

Yep. Let’s get the 1976 Blue Devils out there. I am all for that...:)

I would have to disagree with you. I have always enjoyed his music, and back in 2004, went to see him at Great Woods in Massachusetts.

It was the most infuriating concert I ever went to, and pretty much soured me on ever going to one again.

His show was the most anti-American event I have ever attended (except for the anti-war, Code Pinko, Westboro Baptist demonstrations down in DC that I have counterprotested)

I sat there and steamed for hours. I didn’t want to ruin it for the other people I went with, and when that SOB inflated a huge, giant helium filled pig at the end with “F*ck Bush” on one side and “Vote Democrat” on the other, it was everything I could do to not explode.

I had always enjoyed his music, some of my favorite albums. Since then, I have been unable to listen at all. THAT makes me angry as well. I don’t take issue with you or anyone who can still enjoy his music, I just can’t anymore. I paid top dollar for that concert, and felt like a chump.

So, I would rather see just about anything else, or nothing at all. Damn him.

Or the 1975 Madison Scouts...or the 1975 Muchachos...or the 1975 Santa Clara Vanguard...ah!

Best. Year. Ever.

See my post at 105...he ruined his music for me.

I just can’t separate it from him now. Damn him.

Time to move the Super Bowl to Saturday night. There were at least 20 people missing from work this morning.

During halftime I switched to the Puppy Bowl on the Animal Planet station.

Can’t believe that nobody made a joke about global warming and that by this time next year, the cold would be nothing to worry about.

>>But why, oh why, the only direction from here is down? We can get even trashier!<<

I thought the year they did the Zombie mini-movie at the half was pretty inventive.

Oh wait, that was “The Rolling Stones...”

Loved the marches. My Dad played Sousa records for us when we were kids.
Here is our local high school marching band, PCEP, one of the years they were Bands of American Grand National Champions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD0Xvzrulug&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I'm not a fan of the music, but they were good performers.

Rather of a halftime show, how about some entertainment instead?

Just realzied that the clip of the Aggie Band I sent you does NOT include the famous 4-way crossover. The maneuver was said by some other band directors to be technically impossible, because it requires that 2, or more people be on the same spot at the same time. Nevertheless, the FTAB manages to perform it flawlessly year after year. Enjoy this:

4-way cross

And, oh yeah.."Gig 'em!!"

IIRC, my former high school band teacher was in the snare line for the Madison Scouts in ‘75 or ‘76.

Great!

Just

Play

the

Damned

Game

It will be refreshing to see the Superbowl played outdoors in a cold climate.

Reminds me of the “Old Days,” when the game was played in Green Bay, and other cold climes.

Sept 15, 1984 Washington stomped the snot out of the then 3rd ranked Michigan in Ann Arbor. Granted it it wasn’t in January but you have to admit anytime you go into a hostile stadium of 100,000 fans and win it is pretty impressive.

And last I checked your warm weather record for late Decemeber/early January bowl games was 20-22, but if you just look at games since 1970 its only 16-22.

No halftime show at Super Bowl 2014?

Fine with me.
I've watched many 1/2 time super bowl shows. Most I don't remember anything about and those I do remember were, for the most part, classless, boring, lacked talent and were just downright terrible.

2013 is one I know I'll forget.

That beats any super bowl half time show I can remember.
