Inside Independence, USA, Glenn Beck’s proposed self-sustaining city and theme-park hybrid

There has been a Utopia, Ohio, and there still exists a Utopia, Texas. In a country with a long history of creating idealistic communities, America may soon see another added into the mix — a city rooted in America’s past, or at least Glenn Beck’s version of it.

Mr. Beck, the outspoken conservative U.S. media personality and commentator, this month outlined his proposition to create a self-sustaining city and theme park hybrid. Independence, USA represents a harkening back to a time of a simpler America and would be built on values he sees the country as now “going away from” — freedom, truth and responsibility,

“It is the rebirth of our nation through its own principles,” Mr. Beck said on his syndicated Glenn Beck program. “You can come here and we will show you the truth of the ideas and the ideals that created this country.”

His proposed $2-billion city would be based on a free-market, limited government model. No location has been pegged down, but Mr. Beck has visited “three possible sites in three different states” and has spoken to two governors, said Mr. Beck’s TheBlaze TV website.

The self-sustaining city would include a ranch for food production, a media centre, a multi-denominational mission centre, a theme park, a research and development centre, a library, parks and baseball diamonds. It would have a communal marketplace that would serve as a public space for conducting small business and sharing ideas. Americans could either live in the city’s residential area or just come to visit.

The concept was partly inspired by Galt’s Gultch, the utopian community in Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, and by past initiatives proposed by Walt Disney...

What happened to real men?

We are starting to hear from them...

Here's one on the Second Amendment.

Here's another on what a President SHOULD sound like.

Watching BOTH videos takes less than half an hour and both WILL inspire you.

Hey, if he wants to dump his money into, that’s his prerogative. I just don’t see what good it will do.

“BUT I want nothing to do with Pay Pal,”

This is kind of ironic. Are you aware that that founder of Paypal, Peter Theil, is an Ayn Rand devotee and has been promoting this ‘Beck’ idea before Beck ?

Thiel wants to create floating cities away from the reach of any government. Peter Thiel has also given grants to young people to forego college and use the money to become an entrepreneur instead.

This is a great link with futuristic drawings of the ‘floating freedom cities.”

I don’t have anything AGAINST Mormons.

Other than the blasphemy, heresy and apostasy of Mormonism that is leading people to Hell, I see nothing wrong with Mormonism. And don't forget the great Mormon pioneers at the Mountain Meadow Massacre.

I believe you're doing things right. I hope more people choose that sort of avenue. Things have reached a point where it's easy for people to have a defeatist attitude. I hope people choose a more active role in their local community, and don't instead develop an isolated survivalist mindset. Everyone needs to accept the reality of our situation, and then find the best outcome they can see happening to get behind.

It's hard for many to admit the depressing truth of the situation we are now in. It's not always an easy, or fast transition from accepting our bleak future to finding something that's worth fighting for in that same future. I know this based on personal experience. I looked for false hope until I couldn't lie to myself any longer, and then I just completely gave up and avoided all news as best as I could. After a few wasted months I realized that I couldn't continue down that path. After that I could find hope and motivation in a future that had been so depressing not long before that it had incapacitated me.

I know a lot of people already envisioned much of what we're now facing long before I ever did. Many just made the transition much better than I did, but some are never even going to make it that far. It's important for people to stop looking for false hope, but still be able to find some hope in a bleak reality. The difference between the two is enormous, and understandably not an easy transition. I know there aren't any perfect solutions to most of the issues we are facing. We just have to work together on finding the best answers we can for now.

One thing about Rush that I thought was very smart. Lately, he's been commenting on the sports and Hollywood scene, and I had said to myself, who cares! and why is he wasting time talking about this stuff. And then I heard a phone call from a listener who said she was a busy mom, who has a job, children and husband, and up to recently, had no time to listen to what was happening in this country, who knew nothing of who Rush was, who was either dealing with her kids, home, a job, husband and everything a one woman operation has to contend with. She said she was grateful just to sit down for a short time and catch something on TV that she didn't have to pay close attention to, so as to relax her mind and body, before hitting the sack and a return to the same routine/exhausion the next day. One day she heard Rush on the car radio, She listened and heard about the Ambassador's death in Benghazi. She asked herself why she never heard anything about this b/4 from her usual msm radio/tv sources. And so she continued to listen to Rush and then realizing what great info she was receiving, she put the word out to her 700plus friends on Facebook to tune in Rush..that they weren’t being told the truth about this country from the msm sources they were all tuned in to. And tune in they did, a few said that Rush's commentary on the Kardashians, for instance, caught their ear and they continued to listen and couldn't believe what they were missing by listening/watching msm and NOT Rush. This caller thanked Rush for educating her..she was never political, and thought that since everyone said obozo would make a good president, she voted for him. Further, she said when her boss at work heard how she voted, he took her aside and explained who obozo really was. And finally, she is a Rush follower and so grateful to have found him and the truth. And so are many of her friends.

My point is that Rush was quite clever in trying this approach, in his attempt to attract the low-informed, sport and Hollywood crowd, in any way possible. And it seems to be working. When Rush has good ideas, he HAS good ideas.

I do recall all that you've written. And I have been disappointed with him on various occasions, as well. But, as with all of the conservative commentators, they have their peaks and valleys, their moments of great inspiration, and their moments of bad decision making, or are having a dry spell as it pertains to new ideas that can benefit We the People and this country.

I will continue to listen to Glenn Beck..as well as Mark Levin, Rush, Hannity any other conservative commentators that I have heard and liked. Like us all, they, too, have good and bad days. They do need our support and we should not abandon them.
