The only good followup to Star Wars was “Spaceballs.”

Empire was better, though not by much. More pathos, and the characters were able to step outside the “Hero’s Journey” archetypes more. Plus, Williams really stepped up his game; the Imperial March is probably one of his better pieces.

Also, Frank Oz!

I really hope they manage to pry the screenplay away from Lucas. His “universe” is probably one of the best out there, especially visually, but he is actively bad at creating dialog. There’s a difference between the “World Of Ham” space-serial dialog he was aiming for and the “Stilted High-School Drama Project” that he put on paper.

Ben Afflack’s in it. How’s ‘bout Matt Damon?

They need Cuba Gooding Jr, he's way better than Ben Affleck.

Empire is arguably better but it starts even MORE “in the middle of the action” and ends with an even bigger cliff hanger (more unresolved threads).

The first film still can stand on it’s own.

If you watch Return you end with Ewoks.

If you then watch the first three, you will also feel unfulfilled. AND look at how many hours you’ll have wasted.

Maybe the samurai version will feature the Noghri guy, Rukh. It’s been ages since I’ve read anything in the Star Wars theme and cannot remember who wrote them but as I recall, the books with the Nogrhi in it were pretty good.

"Two hours of blue filter and lens flares."

At least it wasn't Michal Bay and an endless series of Epic-slow-mo-pan-and-tilt-dolly-shots.

(if you are not sure of what I mean check this out: Michael Bay Dolly shot on Film Riot it starts around 2:05)

Will Smith can’t act his way out of wet tissue anymore.

It's like Hurley writing the "Empire Strikes Back"... with a few "improvements".

I saw the first three in the theater. #1 was the best, by far.

I didn’t like Star Wars II. It chronicled a series of defeats, and its ending was inconclusive.

A stand-alone Star Wars film; a Jedi/samurai type based on the film Seven Samurai.”

It’s already been done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F13CTKTkMvc
