European Patent Granted for Francesco Piantelli’s LENR Process

The European Patent office has granted a patent for the Francesco Piantelli’s invention of process for producing energy from a nickel-hydrogen reaction.

Sergio Focardi, who assisted Andrea Rossi in the development of the E-Cat had worked with Piantelli in the study and development of LENR from nickel-hydrogen processes.

So what? The patent office does not examine whether the applied-for invention actually works or not.
The criteria for patentability are, by legal definition (in this case, Articles 52 - 54 of the European Patent Convention):
1. Novelty (i.e., not formerly described in any *one* single disclosure.)
2. Non-obviousness (i.e., not being able to be derived from a *combination* of prior disclosures.)
3. Industrial applicability (i.e., can conceivably be manufactured or used in industry - this does *not* mean it actually works as claimed. This criterium is more concerned with excluding certain inventions - such as medical procedures - from being patentable.)
The patent office does not care whether or not it works. That’s for the *market* to decide.
But since this great invention has been - as per your prior proclamations pimping Rossi - creating unlimited free energy for over a year now....oh, wait...it hasn’t, actually?

Because *that* is what this thread is about. And *you* posted it.
LENR is an interesting subject. Your comments about the requirements for a patent from the European Union are also interesting. Personal disparagements about one’s motives for posting are not.
Once again, Rossi the con artist has to be mentioned.
The USPTO won't even look at a LENR or cold fusion patent application, because over here it does matter whether it works or not.

I'm afraid you are thoroughly mistaken on that point.

The present invention takes a transmission of energy, and instead of sending through normal time and space, it pokes a small hole into another dimension, thus sending the energy through a place which allows transmission of energy to exceed the speed of light.
Read the whole thing, it's a hoot.
The sad fact is that the USPTO grants about an order of magnitude more silly patents than the EPO. Simply because the US patentability limitations are broader (business methods etc.). Other than that the same three criteria I outlined in my initial post apply.
Those requirements are pretty much universal; they apply for US patents as well. Also see my post #16.
Any announcement of a demonstration of the device at an independent lab? Preferably a long-running demonstration?

He does this in sufficient depth and detail (and sufficiently well-referenced) so that the professional scientist can benefit, but clearly enough that the educated layman can also understand. In addition he covers the sociology of the skeptics, and how they attempted to throttle cold fusion in the cradle. Unsuccessfully, fortunately.

Lie. My comment mentioned not one syllable about Rossi. There is no way that it could have "promoted fraud". The book I referenced certainly doesn't mention Rossi, as it was published well before Rossi's work became public knowledge. Your sole purpose is to censor any positive comment about LENR. You have been on other non-Rossi LENR threads, posting similar garbage.
This thread is based on an article that mentions Rossi and is from an Ecat blog, a fact that Kevmo did not disclose. You made a post in support of this thread and Kevmo's posting of it. If you don't like that my response went to you, ignore it. Every post on FR is public and open to replies from any FR member. Even Kevmo agrees with that (Link).

I am one of the few people on FR to say that cold fusion is real and then provide citations of legitimate scientific work to back it up.
I don't send people to Amazon to buy a book on cold fusion written by an elderly retiree with no advanced degree in physics or chemistry. All most people need to know is free and can be found here, especially this section, and this section.
