I think back to what Beck said Soro's number two guy (or whoever he met with) said to him. Let me add that I think Soros is a mid-level player in all this--

He told him you can basically get on the train or stay off but the train is leaving make no mistake about it.

Basically, he was saying if he played ball with the agenda, his life would be pretty nice. No guarantees for him if he didn't get on board.

That, in a nutshell, has to be basically what it comes down to with these guys. They feel they can't stop this new communist world order and they want to secure their and their families place as elites in it.

We’ll have to see the actual agreement, not just an anonymous leak.

But what is described isn’t caving in on the filibuster.

The Republicans have been filibustering things they would never have done before, simply because Reid has taken up all the amendment slots.

According to the news article, the agreement involves leaving 2 slots for the minority party to propose amendments (note that once you have a slot for an amendment, you can put as many of your individual changes as you want into the amendment). In those instances, apparently some part of the filibuster will be waived, although you will still need 60 votes to get the legislation to the floor, so you can still block things.

My guess is some things we don’t like will pass, that wouldn’t have passed before; on the other hand, the filibuster was never designed to create a 60-vote requirement for all legislation, it was an outgrowth of the infinite debate concept in the senate — that you didn’t vote until everybody had a chance to say something, and that meant a single senator could talk “forever”.

The senators got lazy, so instead of having to talk forever, they made rules to simulate the ‘talk forever’, which actually weakened the ability of an individual senator to stop things, but gave more power to the party apparatus (which is the true shame of the senate, that everything is geared to the two-party system, rather than every senator representing their own state’s interests).

Invoking cloture is still always available though.

The effect I see from it is that people will have fewer opportunities to invoke cloture- yet they will always have a chance to do it on any bill.

From the link above:
“... the package falls far short of what a group of more liberal Democratic senators had sought, it should accomplish one of Reid’s stated goals: allowing business to progress more quickly. In no case, however, will senators lose the right to force a 60 vote supermajority vote on bills and nominations as provided under the existing rules.”

It would appear that the 'death' of the filibuster was greatly exaggerated.

It looks like Ried caved:

A pro-reform aide I spoke to was agog. “Right now, you have to negotiate with McConnell to get on a bill,” he said. “Tomorrow, if this passes, you still need to negotiate with McConnell to get on a bill. It changes nothing on how we move forward.” …

I think that’s a big part of it. They are selling out their country for a nice, comfortable life.. while the rest of us suffer.

Couldn't agree more.

I know that third parties don't work (historically), but I'm wondering if the exodus of Conservatives and Independents will be large enough to destroy the GOPe, while being strong enough to form a new alternative to the GOPe?

The only political power we currently have is being able to change who we support...either financially, or as an active party member.

It still takes 60 votes to cloture on the bill.

Same as yesterday.

And frankly if that gets through the House, Boehner should be tarred and feathered AND we should all just call it a day too.

Most DC politicians are drunk with power because they face no immediate consequences for their actions and the media cartel uses their propaganda machine to praise the anti-Americanism coming out of DC. Culling those in DC through the election process can’t be relied on due to the level of fraud that taints the system. Obozo in the WH proves that fact. It’s obvious what’s left for we the people to do and the power elite fear it and are working over time to take that last bastion of freedom from our hands. With regards to the real purpose and intent of the Second Amendment, the old phrase; use it or lose it has never been more true than it is today.

Question is...where does it end. Scandinavia...or North Korea?

Scandinavia would suck but you can eek out an existence. Not my idea of living but not tree bark soup either.

I am thinking the "plan" is Scandinavia on steroids but like all leftist plans, it goes horribly awry and we end up with Mao's China/North Korea.

Get a grip. Quit crying. I’m not sure I trust you anyway.

It’s just a few tweaks in the majority’s favor, adjustments the GOP will also take advantage of when they take back the senate. Boehner declared 2 months ago that anything that comes to the House as a result of senate rule changes would be DOA, so Reid didn’t have a whole lot of muscle in the first place.

The basic filibuster rule stands. It will be interesting to see what the Republicans got in return.
