Jay Leno's Garage: Decoliner Custom Built
YouTube ^ | April 25' 2012 | Jay Leno

Posted on 01/12/2013 12:55:55 PM PST by RegulatorCountry

Went into the grocery store last night to pick up a few things, and happened to glance at the magazine display.

What I saw on the cover of Drive really caught my eye, so I looked at the magazine.

There is an automotive custom design group called Blastolene, that is doing some really crazy, beautiful stuff, equal parts rat rod, Buck Rogers and alternative historical fantasy with a steampunk edge to it.

The YouTube video is the best example I could find since the current issue of the magazine doesn't seem to be available online yet.

It features the head of Blastolene, Randy Grub, talking to Jay Leno about their Deco Liner, a completely custom built and very wild art deco RV with a functional flying bridge. 455 Olds engine, 73 GMC motorhome frame and suspension.

Jay takes it for a spin, lol.

Many more of these vehicles can be seen at http://www.blastolene.com

Yep, that’s the one. Leno bought it.

I think Leno said that Grub was from Washington State - I wouldn’t be surprised if the ferry didn’t spark part of the idea.

Interesting. He has shown that sort of generosity before on the storage wars show. SORT of generous in that he’ll get rid of stuff that he doesn’t want anyway, or have to pay to haul away to the dump. Like the large-screen TV set for the burrito meal that the lady made at her food stand.

"Barry on Storage Wars drove it to an auction on one of the episodes. "

"I told you, the whole story line is fake!"

Have to agree "Blown Ranger" was the best.

I liked this styling inspiration for the boat-tail and rear fenders on Bertha:

It just amazes me that such gorgeous machines can be hand-crafted.

While that may have been the stylistic inspiration for the rear end treatment on Big Bertha, they actually built something very close to that in it’s entirety, the B-702. I’m still on a mobile device or I’d post a pic.

People here are sentimental about it. But no one wants to put any $ in it other than to come up with grand plans that never come to be.
