Steubenville, Ohio (CNN) -- Amid social media pressure and allegations of a cover-up, leaders in Steubenville, Ohio, have launched a website to keep the community updated on a rape case that has consumed the small Ohio town.
"With looking at the facts of the case, the rumors, the social media ... we proceeded in setting up SteubenvilleFacts.org that will present only the facts and provide information on the government of the city, as well as the transparency and the timeline of the evidence," City Manager Cathy Davison said at a news conference Saturday.
Davison said the website is meant to combat the perception that "everyone in Steubenville is acting or is like the individuals that are involved in the case. That we are a community that is run by football. That is not the case."
Two 16-year-old members of the town's high school football team are charged with raping a girl in August. Special prosecutors from the state attorney general's office allege the teens sexually assaulted the girl while she was unconscious.

When the family of the victim went to file the charges, Jane Hanlin was present. She strongly discouraged them from filing. Hanlin frightened not only the victim, but the parents as well. Telling them that her name was going to be dragged through the mud, she will be in and out of court for well over two years, the press wouldn’t leave any of the family alone once the crime was made public. Scared out of their wits, the parents said they didn’t want that and Hanlin then said not to worry just leave it up to her and the detectives on the case.
We all saw a similar level of entrenched corruption in the persection and prosecution of the Duke Lacrosse “rapists” who didn’t rape the alleged rape victim.
This time, it very much appears that the flip side of government corruption is taking place, and a rape victim was maliciously persecuted, and possibly threatened with prosecution. Certainly she was extensively victimised by her rapists friends, and their families political connections.
I don’t have any inside knowledge of this case to contribute.
No matter the final legal verdict,there is obviously something very wrong with many of the people in that town.

OSU is in an uproar over one of its students involved in the gang rape, and for good reason. The idiot was in an incredibly cruel video boasting about it.
I would say that it’s more than just that one town. There are many of these stories about highly talented athletes, who literally get away with acts like this, because they have the potential of going onto the collegiate level, or possibly pro.
I think there is something troubling about how many Americans relate to athletics.
Most likely no charges would have been filed had the video of the boys boasting of their stupid crime not been posted by hackers.
I don’t want to find out all the details but seeing that POS white kid joking about the “dead” girl getting raped was truly disgusting. I don’t know what his involvement was but if I was one of his peers I would have given him a Sonny Corleone beat-down just for joking about situation the way he did. He’s legit sick in the head but the scary thing is he’s not the worst of the bunch.
the hackativist have released a stunning video of one of the players talking about how "dead" the girl was, how she might have wanted to be raped as her last request, etc....astounding evil....
I understand that the state investigators are involved now....
Hopefully mommy prosecutor cannot pull strings to avoid having her darling son being not subject to the full weight of the law.
Google the rapists names. there are a million stories none of which paint the town officials in a positive light.

STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin issued a statement Saturday night regarding her involvement in the investigation into an alleged August rape incident involving a 16 year old Weirton female and two Steubenville High School students.
“My ethical duties as a prosecutor prohibit me from discussing the details of the case involving allegations of rape against two local juveniles until the matter has been resolved in court, Once the court proceedings have been concluded, I will be able to answer any questions the public may have and I have promised to do so,” said Hanlin.
“All allegations that me or my son or my home are involved in any way whatsoever in this criminal matter are 100 percent false. None of the alleged events occurred at my home. My son was not present at any time while the victim was alleged to have been unconscious, photographed, videotaped or sexually assaulted. Any statement to the contrary is 100 percent false,” Hanlin stated.

Amazing how people have jumped on this story so heavily. While I DO support any rape victim and hope this case will be resolved fairly and hostely, I wonder why the public hasn’t risen to the same level of disgust and anger over a president we know absolutely nothing about who has set his sights on “raping” this country. What really is “fair” these days?

The county prosecutor turned this case over to Special Prosecutors from the States Attorney Generals Office in AUGUST less than 3 weeks after the rape.
Anonymous has hacked websites, hacked private email accounts and complied a dossier complete with names, phone numbers, addresses, and social security numbers of the Principal, coaches, all the faculty of the school and their relatives and have threatened to release all of this if the victim doesn’t get an apology from people who may or may not be involved.
Does the majority of members of freerepublic really support that?

This is no different than forces against the 2nd Amendment using Newtown as leverage to eliminate guns.
Anonymous/Occupy is using this rape as leverage to spread their anarchy.
That LiveLeaks website is so full of smears many of which can be easily dismissed, except for the fact the crime involved and the conduct of the perp is so outrageous, it is difficult to criticize what Anonymous/occupy is doing because they claim to be defending the victim.
LiveLeaks smears the county prosecutor,for saying what ANY prosecutor would tell the rape victim on what to expect from a trial.
Furthermore, it’s the states attorney general special prosecutors who are handling the case. The county prosecutor turned it over in August. AUGUST!
The Sheriff has been smeared for running a prolonged investigation, except it’s the City Police, not the Sheriff, who has jurisdiction over an investigation that has produced two arrests prior to the States Attorneys involvement.
Anonymous/Occupy claims on Liveleaks that the sheriff is aware of the 12 minute video which shows the OSU student laughing about the rape, but that the sheriff cannot get access to it.
Then Anonymous/Occupy criticizes the Sheriff for not arresting this OSU brute.
Seriously?? People are lapping this up
They are accusing the Sheriff not arresting a perp for his conduct on a video that the Sheriff has admitted that he has not seen, that he cannot get access to, in an investigation that he does not have jurisdiction over.
The Sheriff first saw the video this week after Anonymous/Occupy posted it online, which leads me to this simple question.
If Anonymous/Occupy was SO concerned about the victim, why on earth would they not give a COPY of the Video to the sheriff when he told them he doesn’t have it?
I don’t want to defend that Sheriff or the county prosecutor, I do not know them, and I certainly don’t know Steubenville, and I’m certainly not defending the brutes involved in a rape.
But Damn it, somebody has to speak up for the Rule of Law, and very, very, very few people are.
One of the Football players from Steubenville, a sophmore, I believe, (what does that make him 15-16 years old?), was quoted in the Cleveland paper today that he wasn’t there, has absolutely nothing to do with, and yet thanks to Anonymous/Occupy, he is getting Death threats, he has been told that the entire football team needs to be lined up and shot. Another Parent compared this to a witch hunt.
Apparently, human nature hasn’t changed much since Salem, the big difference now is in powerful tools in the form of the internet and Social Media.
With great power comes great responsibility. I believe what Anonymous/Occupy has done is incredibly irresponsible.
They haven’t done anything, to force anyone, to do anything different, that they already haven’t done.
1) Arrests have been made
2) Special Prosecutors have been called in
3) Trials have been set

All done in the weeks after the assault. Once there is sworn testimony from the trial, the door is open for more arrests, per the prosecutors.
It saddens me that I appear to be a lone voice out here, very very few people across the political spectrum are speaking out against the Anonymous/Occupy tactics.
My wife is a member of the faculty at a local high school, an English teacher, had we lived in Steubenville, her personal information would be held hostage by Anonymous/occupy right now, as they whip up a frenzied crowd.

The City Police handled the investigation, it’s their jurisdiction, not the Sheriffs department.
The Attorney General has had special prosecutors on the case since August 28th
Two people are arrested, a trial is scheduled, special prosecutors are on the case from the States Attorney’s General office claiming that more charges could be made after there is sworn testimony at the trial.......This is a cover up?

What harm could be done by giving the Sheriff a COPY of the video? Is he going to cover up the copy? I’m having a hard time making sense of that.
And I did read that the Sheriff had breakfast with the coach a couple times a week. He’s obviously guilty as hell, as is the waitress who served them coffee and the busboy who cleaned their table. And the owner, who is a bookie who runs drugs (According to Anonymous/Occupy).
This surely hampered the Sheriffs investigation, oh wait, it wasn’t is case to investigate.

You obviously missed the salient parts of the website. The sheriff WAS provided with all the evidence, most of which was subsequently scrubbed from the picture taking cellphones .......
The sheriff is part and parcel of this entire coverup and he will be taken down.........
