It is being reported on the news that in Colorado (where Colorado Bureau of Investigations lightly staffed personnel handle background checks) that they currently have a backlog of 10,000 checks and that their instant check program is currently taking 10 days.
That would work. I believe it's federal law that says the check CANNOT take more than 3 business days without a deny or a proceed being issued. If no reply is received on the background check by the third business day, then the dealer can transfer the firearm to the buyer.
