Older folks tend to have unregistered weapons from many years ago, right? When did background checks start; isn’t that when the govn. would know you had one, but before that they wouldn’t?

All the important encroachments to the 2nd amendment happened in 1934 and 1968. I don't remember when the 4472 form started, but probably '68.

The revolver that my grandfather carried when he preached in a small church in Arkansas has a serial number, but I'm pretty sure he didn't fill out any paperwork for it.

It's pretty much the same as one you might own, but this one has stories to tell. ;)

Background checks started in 1994(I think), but filling out the 4473, a form that normally is never destroyed and is sent to the FBI after a dealer goes out of business(I think) has been in effect since the passing of the 1968 Gun Control Act, roughtly 44 years. Having said that, if a private citizen sells a weapon to another private citizen, a transaction that in many states does not require any paperwork, the government functionally loses all trace of where it went.

Now you've gone and reminded them. Next they'll demand all those be registered and if you're found with one that isn't then it's 5 years in the clink.

Did y'all hear about the cruise ship that is docked in Houston with the norovirus. The story was on the Austin Fox station at 10. The passengers were quarantined in their rooms for three days and the ship is being disinfected. If you haven't finished your shopping, then let it go or make a quick run tomorrow and wash your hands. Better yet, stay home.
