in 1990 my company selected two families for xmas spirit with skip and I being the ramrods. Both of us visited COSTCO and really got the xmas spirit. On 24th we had to use skip’s station wagon because of so many stuff for just one family. We loaded the 1st family’s gifts which filled the back completely. Arrived at home with middle age woman and 14 year old teen. All she could do was complain because we didn’t get the shoes she wanted. We felt like two suckers. The next family was a mother with three kids 7,5,adn 4. The two oldest tried helping us carry it in. The mother cried from the moment we arrived until we left.

Please don’t use the ‘xmas’ term. Spell it as Christmas.
Let the unbelievers have the xmas they so desire. Keep Christ in Christmas. Thank you.

Had a variation of this happen also. 25-30 of us in a unit picked a charity to give to at Christmas. We had a list of charities/organizations in the area that “needed” help.
It was decided that our charity would be the home for unwed mothers. Alot of items were collected and wrapped ( all new, some very expensive).
I was part of the volunteer crew to deliver to the charity. My large car was filled to capacity with our generosity. A co-worker went with me and we certainly got an eyeful.
The morning that we arrived there were at least 12-15 other cars also dropping off items. The staff and occupants of the home were rude and entitled. Made uncalled for comments about some of the items being delivered. My good mood and charitable spirit was spoiled by this flock of vultures.
The following year we chose a local old folks home. They appreciated all of the toiletries, baked goods, and friendship that was delivered to them at Christmas. What a stark contrast.
