McGrath: There Is a Disaster Coming. Get Ready For It.
SHTF Plan ^ | 11/13/12 | Mac Salvo

Posted on 11/13/2012 9:37:39 PM PST by Kartographer

We’re talking about the potential for an absolute credit freeze that will make the situation in New York spread across this country almost overnight.

Ask yourself this question: Are you prepared to take care of yourself?

If you cannot answer that question with the affirmative it is time to stop just listening to alternative media and thinking of it as entertainment, but taking the advice seriously and considering if you have a plan to take care of yourself and loved ones if the situation arises.

Because if you look around this world, if you look at the mainstream media, they’re forewarning you about what’s coming.

There is a disaster coming. Get ready for it. Make sure you are mentally and physically prepared for what is coming.

that we’ll see hordes of looters descending out of the city is misplaced.

I think you are right. The logistics of maneuver and communication during difficult times are hard enough for those that are prepared. Without intel, maps, transportation, comms, etc... looters won't have much chance.

This is obvious, but worth posting for emphasis:

Today’s events in the Middle East have the potential to escalate to a SHTF scenario.

That does NOT mean they will, but anyone who thinks the potential is not real is living in denial.

None of us knew this was going to happen today, and none of us knows where this is going.

AT A MINIMUM, TODAY IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE READY IN ADVANCE. Once a true SHTF scenario is clear to everyone it will be too late to prepare.

Right, it all depends. We could have organized mobs running amok through the suburbs. We could also have the national guard going farm to farm searching for ‘weapons dealers’ and hoarders.

Pray and prepare.

Backroads are no sufficient if you are starting in a high population area. All of the north east would qualify.

Most of Florida also applies. A single break down or accident and the backroad is blocked. People pay much less attention to traffic laws during evacuations.

If you want to bug out / evacuate then leave very early or stay home.

We're so spoiled by having freeways that we probably don't realize just how messed up our other roads would be if the freeways get blocked.

We live near a river which creates some unusual situations due to the limited number of bridges. I was driving near the river one day when the local freeway got blocked; I don't remember why.

The side roads were filled with cars and traffic took hours to clear. I wouldn't just assume that any particular side road will be clear.

Freeways are the only place where it is practical to drive 60 miles per hour. If one is limited to ten or twenty miles per hour anyway, then almost any road will do. The hordes will probably take the roads with the most homes along the road, looking for opportunities.

Individual looters will be a problem, and perhaps groups small enough to fit in a single vehicle. Massive hordes of looters are unlikely IMO.

Doesn’t mean the sheriffs dept or national guard couldn’t be going door to door. We know the military has already held exercises simulating such events.

Interesting point. I don't expect the local constabulary to being going door-to-door here in my area, only a couple of them actually live in the area, and most may well stay home to protect their family and stuff.

As far as NG, it would be nice to never, ever find out. That's the hope, anyway.

JRandomFreeper appears to be living Leviticus ch 25 each and every day; how can he be in danger of any “tumble?”

Leviticus 25 is the Lord’s ‘preparedness manual.’

Your inverter should be rated for at least twice your anticipated load. (basic engineering)

You can pull more out of it than you’re putting in, though...

That’s why I recced the 750. Relatively cheap, and about what your alternator will put out.

You are most likely the very last person on this website with any ability to tell others what to do.

By the way: personal attack means I win.

Yes, a small one, but not a big one.

You have to watch the prophetic clocks. For the events of Daniel/Revelation, which most see as what is comming, to happen, we have to be back on the 360 day year, and until the event(s) that bring that about happen, we are dealing with small, localized interruptions.

All of the great apocalyptic prophecies count out in 360 day years, and when we are in that situation, you can be sure that those prophecies will unfold rapidly.

Please, remove that tagline. Profanity,
even veiled, not allowed on the open forum. Thanks.

You’ll burn out your inverter very quickly if you attempt to use it as an output control. You have to size the load to control output.

I’m really not worried about hordes from the city. My guess is that the biggest problem in a SHTFC situation will be my own neighbors.

There’s another problem with the bug out scenario. Even if you make it out of town the locals at the end of the highway won’t be happy to see you.

True, you have to size the inverter to the projected load. I use 1.5 for a safety multiplier.

One thing to consider is that while the alternator may only put out 750w, current will also be drawn from the battery.

Personally, I don't do inverters in vehicles anymore after some bad experiences.

A cheap genset can recharge a battery bank pretty quickly. Couple the battery bank with an inverter/charger, and you don't have those high vehicle repair bills.

Of course - that’s why you only run a couple of lights and your fridge OR freezer for a while, idling your car for a couple of hours to recharge the battery or while running the fridge.

Steve Harris has a whole interview on the topic on his site.
