I read this book in 1960 while in my first year in high school. No, it wasn’t on the reading list, I just wanted to read it.

I doubt that SST will ever make a high school reading list. I read it in High School in the early 1980s, but all of my required reading in ROTC and service schools revolved around Vietnam-Era literature (Chickenhawk, The 13th Valley, A Rumor of War, Fields of Fire, etc.). Much of it was amazing stuff, some was self-serving trash.

Another good sci-fi take is “The Forever War”. Many critics called it a rejection of “Heinlein jingoism”, but Heinlein even called and contratulated the author on his Nebula Award.
