I thought that was Mombasa? But I could be wrong.

Or was that Roland the Thompson gunner?

The people who started this country left the country they were born in.

I think the world will go the way America does.

No thanks! I'd rather BE the "angry locals" then fear them.

Yup, got my pitchfork all sharpened up in anticipation of my future among the angry mob.

Right here. Where I am.

I own this land, this house. It's a family thing.

Single man don't need a bunch of stuff.

Nice thing about having a place that no-one wants is that property taxes are cheap.

I don't pull in government funds, but I can get by really well with $500USD/month. I've done it with much less, and it sucked.

“Most of south america is socialist/marxist.”

Most of the world is socialist/marxist. Even Israel is a socialist country.

Costa Rica’s third world. I prefer Panama, specifically, Boquete, Panama.

The nice thing about growing up in the north is the fact that I’m cold tolerant and when the going gets rough, everyone else heads south and leaves me the hell alone.

west of Midland/Odessa

Midland/Odessa makes watching paint dry seem exciting. Everything west of there has a certain money smell to it. Lord love a refinery.

Nope. I'm right near to where the West begins. Close to the west branch of the Trinity.

Google and listen to Overseasradionetwork. Various internet talk shows that have people in all sorts of places. Very informative and gives you good day to day insight.

I am leaning Panama right now.

He said it is nothing but hookers and hustlers.

Did he have a smile on this face when he said it.

All kidding aside, I have been thinking of a faraway place to retire for years.. I’ve had the benefit of extensive travel in the Caribbean and Central America, and even the Mediterranean Europe..

I even have owned land in Belize, as far back as when it was British Honduras, but after spending time there, I always found the best of what they offered is still a weak substitute for the good ole USA..

I was only half kidding about the bug problem in the tropics, it’s a big problem.. Good Luck

I’ve been in Oil and Gas since 1980. Been to Midland/Odessa a few times. You’re right about it being slower than watching paint dry.

I could see us owning property in some other country where we spend a few months a year. Preferably some place with a nice golf course or two.

Property Taxes in Houston is around 3% of value. Amazing just for the property taxes you can live for a year somewhere in Texas.

Colombia is still hanging in there, but yes. The promise of mirrors and shiny things have enveloped them. Sad really. Some protestant churches have been fighting this, but it is hard.
