The source for the 2.6 number is a successful Silicon Valley entrepreneur and a Columbia alumnus who maintains good ties with the university.
In 2004, after Obamas successful speech at that years Democratic convention, a Columbia University official told him Barack Obamas GPA, he explained to TheDC.
This person told me that he [Obama] was a pre-law, poli-sci major, had a lot of incompletes, and as best could be determined after sorting through the incompletes, had a GPA of 2.6, said the businessman, a former Marine Corps combat veteran.

The writer wanted people to send him weird rumors about Obama that "baggers" believe.
I thought I was signing up for the first time, and when I tried to login under my email address, they informed me that "Your account has been deleted from Huffington Post."
Had they seen that I tried to cut and paste this to dispute their notion that Obama was smarter than Romney?
"Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann, and soon after, enrolled in Brigham Young University. He graduated in 1971 with a Degree in English, with a 3.97GPA. His young family then moved to Boston, and Mitt enrolled in both Harvard Law (HLS) and Harvard Business School (HBS). He obtained his MBA from HBS in 1975 and graduated cum laude from HLS with his Juris Doctor the same year, finishing in the top 5% of his class."
Or had they somehow spied on me and got wind of my Romney donation this evening?
I was just getting used to their site, so come election night ( if FP went down), I could have some fun with them.
Does Huffington Post have spies on us?
FP=FR
Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Fail.
Obama flunked lunch at Columbia!
Black that is how
About Obama as “Mensa material”:
I’m a member of Mensa. Full disclosure: I am down at the very bottom of where you can be to get into Mensa. But it has been a very fun organization for me (we have a lot of geeky parties!). More to the point, I now know a LOT of very, very intelligent people, most of them smarter than me ... and friends, I am here to testify that Obama does not fit the profile. He’s what we call an “overachiever”: Someone who has worked their butt off to reach the top, but in terms of their mental agility and acuity, they just don’t cut it. If Obama is truly “our smartest President,” then God help us all, because we’ll need it!
Lol. If Zero had been mensa material, he’d been more like Birdman Bryant mensa.
They have had a hard time convincing him to come back for their homecoming week. The Mensa in Chielf (not!) would rather hang out or hide within the skirts of their counterpart.
‘Obamas decision to speak at Barnard has caused some heated reactions among Columbia students, the Columbia Spectator reported in March.
Emilio Fajardo said that the decision seems like a slap in the face to Columbia, the paper wrote, quoting a Columbia sophomore. Sean Udell, CC 11 and president of the class of 2011, spearheaded the POTUS Project, a campaign to convince Obama to speak at Columbias commencement ceremony last year.
Im shocked and happy that Barnard will get to have Obama speak at their commencement, Udell said. Im quite disappointed, of course, that President Obama spoke to our sister school, instead of his alma mater.
Really? Wow! If I had had a GPA under 3.4 I don’t think I would have even bothered applying to any Grad schools!
Which is why I would not trust a black surgeon in a million years. There might be a black surgeon who is the greatest surgeon in the history of the universe, but thanks to "affirmative action", that black surgeon suffers a stigma and he will never be fully trusted by many people. Congratulations to the Democrat politicians, the blacks who elect them, and the top black professionals who stand by silently and let this disgrace continue. Nice work.
Tell me about it. I was a member of MENSA for a little over a year. Went to TWO meetings, two separate groups, and immediately knew it was not going to be a good thing after either one. Especially after admitting (1) that I was a military officer (2)that I was a Conservative, and (3)that I owned guns.
The first group found conversation about BDSM sexuality of high interest. In fact, they seemed obsessed about it. When invited to come downstairs to “the Dungeon”, I looked at my watch, made an excuse, and left quickly. Hearing snickers about “stupid Republican vanillas”. . .
The second one IMMEDIATELY inquired into my politics, and basically told me to leave and not come back, I obviously wasn’t really MENSA material. . . .
By the way, isn’t it comforting to know that half of all doctors finish medical school in the bottom 50% of their class?
Maybe they meant Densa as he is very dense.
Should have written MENSA. But I admit I am Densa-—because like Gov. Romeny said, I’ve had long nights...worrying so much about this election, I can’t handle details, shouldn’t operate heavy equipment, won’t go near sharp implements, see dead people in the voting rolls, and am sure I’ll go into a crying jag if FR goes down on election night.
Depends on your definition of “work,” doesn’t it? I think he has worked very hard in some ways ... schmoozing, sucking up, brown-nosing, yes-sirring ... the list is endless. Nice work if you can get it, I guess.
.... He is probably an Affirmative Action MENSA.
Because the quota for fake divinity schools had been taken by Sharpton and Jackson.
Actually, I believe the 2.6 GPA may have been by affirmative action. In other words, he didn't get that grade by himself. A teacher, another student, somebody else did that for him.
Just like someone photoshopped him into the picture of his grandparents in New York.
Just like someone photoshopped him into the picture of his grandparents in New York.
70% being black; 20% having ties to Indonesia; 5% being from Hawaii; 5% having gone to a prestigious preparatory school (before Occidental).
I went to law school and I recall that every medical malpractice suit that was important enough to have become a landmark case involved a black surgeon. I, too, wouldn’t trust a black surgeon in a million years.
Which is why I would not trust a black surgeon in a million years....Find out if he was ever a medic in the Army, or a Corpsman in the Marines, first. Our Medic, whom I rate all my GP’s against, was black and performed crap under fire most Doctors wouldn’t do in an emergency room. He got out, got his GI Bill and caught the attention of ‘someone’ who sent him on to be one of the most highly touted oncologista in his state. I’ll never forget when I caught the flu and strep throat at a FB and he reached in his locker and brought out a fifth of Jim Beam, a handful of Momma’s anise Christmas candy and said “Get some hot water, drink as much as you can with a mouthful of this candy, grab 12 hrs. of sleep and get on that 60. You’re the best we got up here.”
Did it help, did you wake up feeling better? (and thank you for your service!)
That’s a tautology, Mensa meat.
Thank you for sticking up for your friend. We all know black people whose ability and work ethic is way above average. Unfortunately, we also run into a lot of AA hires who manage to cast an aura of doubt on the achievements of all blacks.
There are a lot of really competent practitioners in every field of endeavor who would never ace the SAT, be they working in medicine, law, engineering or finance, just as their are those who thrive in an academic setting but are completely helpless in the real world. However. Obama is no example of the former and Romney is no example of the latter.
For the most part academic achievement is a strong predictor of professional achievement, which is why companies like to see a candidates transcripts.
GPA BS. I had a very wise high school English teacher in my Soph and Senior years. He always said a few things about IQ and GPA.
IQ is like a bucket, if you have a big bucket (high score) but you only fill it up half way, what a waste. It is better to have a smaller bucket and have it overflowing with knowledge.
GPA, via personal experience. If you were to see my GPA for my associates degree, I’d be laughed out of the HR office. Hey, full time college was not for me. My bachelors was a 3.79, my masters was a 3.89. In 25 years I have only come to the conclusion that those last two numbers kept my resume out of the trash. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but by no means the dullest either, I get my job done with the best of my abilities and always look for a way to learn something new everyday.
“best of my ability ...” “ ...learn something new every day ...”
Exactly.
But since Obama already knows everything and is already functioning at 110 percent of his ability (just ask him!) he doesn’t have that mindset at all.
Did he work his butt off? I missed that in his biography.
Did he work his butt off? I missed that in his biography.
Not so much an “over achiever” as he is a Forest Gump or Chancy Gardner
Name me one, because I went to law school also, and I don't recall any of the landmark med mal cases even identifying the race of the doctor.
Yep. It did. However He and I always joke if the cure was worth the disease! At least I could run the gun ( probably would’ve blew my brains out my ears out my ears if we would have needed it.)
“My uncle declined every Mensa invite they offered him.”
Good man. So did I. I thought they were odd.
Caveat: In retrospect, I see that I am, too.
I would not trust a black surgeon in a million years
???
Pretty harsh. I’m sorry you feel that way.
Ben Carson is one of my inspirations, and I’ve known & worked with...ohh, about a half-dozen black doctors over my 20-year career. Every one of them was EXCELLENT.
It helps if a prominent Saudi prince takes a personal interest in your career.
I take exception to that, I think he took the Affirmative Action Express Elevator along with the help of some lefty friends. Those incompletes don't show me a butt being worked off.
2.6? Yeh thats real Harvard Law Review material.
Triple Nine Society seems to be libertarian leaning and is OK with military and guns. Obama surely would not qualify.
“If I had had a GPA under 3.4 I dont think I would have even bothered applying to any Grad schools!”
When I applied for grad school you had to have at least a 3.0 in undergraduate to even apply.
I see no evidence that this is the case either.
Somehow, that does not fit my definition of “work”. But I guess over the years, that meaning has been sodomized as well.
Silly headline.
There are a good many Mensa qualifiers who did poorly in school.
I guess you’ve never heard about Ben Carson. One of the most famous pediatric neurosurgeons on earth.
You may not ever need to trust him, but there are many people who have travelled very far to trust those most precious to them to his very gifted hands.
