I was working in the Bay Area the first time I heard "When the Levee Breaks". I was in a steel warehouse and it was raining like crazy. The DJ introduced the song and said, "If God played the drums, this is what it would sound like!"

Attended their last Bay Area show, way back when I was a young punk.

"passed away"
Choked to death on his own vomit, after drinking INSANE amounts of vodka.
Let's call them as they are.

I never liked Zep as a young kid (too metal for my Steely tastes), and preferred the Who for mainstream rock.
But I quickly learned to adore Zep when I started to study drums in middle age.

When they broke up, I figured the next LZ would show up soon.
I’m still waiting. Has any group come close?

As I was a blues fan in the late 1960’s, I loved Zepplin’s first album, and none since.

Keith Moon also died in September (9/7/78). The drum work on “I can see for miles” is amazing. September was not a good month for drummers. At least Neal Pert and Ringo are still with us.

I would also add that when Plant went on his first solo tour, who did he pick to be the drummer.....Phil Collins.

Sad Day, I remember hearing the news. I stacked all my Zep Albums on the Stereo and drank Jack Daniels while they played.

BTW I've seen U2 and White Stripes mentioned on this thread, so if you are a fan of them or Zep you should watch a Documentary called:
It Might Get Loud (That is the trailer for it) Jack White, The Edge and Jimmy Page get together and swap stories and jam a bit. Awesome shit!
My favorite moment is when Page wanders off to a corner picks up his "Paul" and starts slamming the opening riffs to "Whole Lotta Love" and everything just stops and both the Edge and White stop what they are doing and lock in on Page and the look on their faces is like, 'Yeah, we're good, but the man playing guitar right now is the "Real Thing" and it makes them smile from ear to ear.'
