Notable appearance by Hoagy Carmichael, a Hollywood conservative who couldn’t stand FDR.

Thanks for the heads up!

You know, as much as I despise Ted Turner, lately TCM is the only channel on TV worth watching on anything like a regular basis.

Last Thursday was a case in point. They featured Warren William all day. It started off with the classic “The Mouthpiece” and later in the evening the first on-screen appearance of Perry Mason with William as Mason.

In both cases, he displayed his inimitable manner of being both dastardly and likeable at the same time.

Real acting from real actors, tough to find anything close to that in TV or the movies of today.

Last night’s TMC movie picks by Regis Philbin were quite good! ‘Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House’ and ‘High Society’.. What an enjoyable evening! :)

Me too, it’s a well made, very watchable film.

You bet! Featuring cameo performances by the GREAT Hoagy Carmichael (writer of Stardust, Georgia on My Mind,Heart and Soul, The Nearness of You) playing the character “Cricket” . You also get to hear/see a teenage Lauren Bacall- who can’t sing but tries. Bogie, Walter Brennan... cast of others Great film!

In the film is the classic “Hong Kong Blues” (with reference to kicking Buddha’s Gong— opium) with him singing:

” Notable appearance by Hoagy Carmichael, a Hollywood conservative who couldn’t stand FDR.”

I didn’t know Hoagy was a conservative. Not surprising though, if you look at the roles he played, and the dialogue.

And the original visual inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond.

My all time favorite Bogey film, even better than Casablanca in my book.

Betty Bacall was 19 when she first met Bogey during this film, he was in his 40s and married.

The energy between them wasn’t all contrived for the film. He soon got divorced, and they were devoted to each other until he died.

Sheldon Leonard, more famous for producing all sorts of TV sitcoms in the 60s, has a cameo role as one of Renard’s thugs.

One of my favorite lines: “What are you doing, guessing her weight?”

It gives Casablanca a run for it's money.
