7 p.m. ET (ESPN) No. 9 South Carolina at Vanderbilt Steve Spurrier recently paid the Commodores a compliment in a way only the Ball Coach could. "They are trying to play football at Vanderbilt," he said. "They really are." Vandy should be improved on offense after a 6-7 season, but its defense can't withstand four quarters of Gamecocks star Marcus Lattimore if he's recovered from last year's knee injury.

College football ... a.k.a. talk radio pre-emption In Southern California, there's no good talk radio on Saturday--mainly shows on get-rich-quick schemes and quack medicine. When football is not in season, I listen to music on Saturdays.

Here in Philly, it's not only the games on the weekends, but it's
sports talk during the week after 6 on certain days. I have an hour commute home: it's so damned annoying when I lose 'between the commercials' options to vapid sports talk shows.
(I know ... I need to get a life!! :-)

Where I live, in CT, the advice shows is that about computer issues, gardening, caring for one’s pets. Even so, I look forward to college football on Saturdays.

Being ‘off the grid’ we will listen to BYU play their first game of the season tonight (1160 AM, KSL), listend to local high school game last Friday and hope to be able to hear the Moore Lions play Friday (1520 AM, beautiful downtown Okalahoma City. Radio still works and does not keep you tied down like the ‘tube’. The rest of y’all enjoy the viewing while we enjoy the listening.
