My kitty cat Leopold had to be put to sleep.

Our cat Leopold had to be put to sleep. He had a severe bladder problem that couldn't be taken care of. It's a major problem for male cats.
Does anyone here have any ideas on how to cope with such a loss? I'm so heartbroken.

Oh I am so sorry...I can’t even imagine the pain of burying a child. We love our animals but understand that there is a difference. Prayers for your loss.

Yep, Kefira (the little DSH rescue) chases big giant Bijou (the Maine Coon). She taps Bijou with her little paw when poor Bijou is sleeping to get her to move, then moves in with more paw tapping to get Bijou to run away. Then she delightedly chases her all over the place until Bijou turns the tables. Bijou is the original drama queen; even the littlest tap by Kefira brings a "Moooooom! She's TOUCHING me!" translated into
Cat. I have to come to her "rescue" and tell Kefira to leave her alone. 5 minutes later, Bijou is chasing Kefira and they start all over again. Sometimes I wake up and both are snuggled together on my bed, so I know all that kvetching is just a bunch of hooey.
Looks like my advice was reiterated about elebenty-leven times here on FR. I know that Craigslist here in NYC has death row kitties advertised every single day, and death row doggies. It breaks my heart to read those posts. Perhaps your local Craigslist has some babies listed that need a good home like yours.

Male kitties are prone to this.

You cant just swap them out like a tire change, have you ever lost a beloved pet unexpectedly?............................................ Yes, more than one and we adopted others. The ones we missed the most was our 15yr old flat hair retriever, and long hair 21yr old Tabby that grew up together. We lost a couple to accidents, and medical problems. The cats we have replaced, the dog we would, but we don’t have the 2 acres now, where we can let it run like we had when we had our retriever. Currently we still have 2 USA short haired Tabby’s that remain inside. Outside they would be alligator food, since we have those roaming the area at night. Talk about losing pets unexpectedly, we have missing pet signs posted daily around here.

If you didn't love your kitty, and if your kitty had not shown you cat-love, it would not hurt so badly.
Sometimes, you just have to grieve. In the last 2 years, I have lost 3 ancient cats to various health problems. They had all been with me about 15 years.
When the time was right, I adopted 2 half-grown kitties. You will know when the time is right.

Thank you for your kind words of support. :)
Leopold was my buddy and I know it’ll take time to move on.
I miss his kneading and purring.
Thanks again everyone for your kindness. I appreciate it.

When he ran down the hallway I swear it sounded like a bowling ball going down the alley.

Leo was so funny with his air of ‘sophistication’.
He had this sort of ‘prim and proper’ attitude with the way he would sit with his front legs crossed.
Our other cat Pumpkin is the laid-back “Cool kitty”,LOL.

Thank you.
I’m sure He has a place for our beloved Leopold.

Leo would snort when he breathed and snore like a human.
He’d sleep next to my head and it was like sleeping next to a person.

My twelve year old cat was healthy until she suddenly stopped eating. I believe that she drank a lot of water during that time, I am not sure because I do not remember when I changed her water but it seemed that it was only a few days that I had changed her water and her water bowl was totally dry. She had one of those bowls with a bottle of water on the top—it was a self filling bowl. But it seems that she drank all her water in a short time. Also there was a little bit of diarrhea.
Rush Limbaugh spoke about his cat dying from a kidney problem. He said that his cat stopped eating and that sounded like what happened to my cat. Do you have any experience with this condition. I was not able to take my cat to the vet because she slipped out into the woods to die. I have been wondering just what happened to her health.

I know this was long ago posted...and I am not sure you are even around anymore...but my family is facing a similar issue now....our lovable Tiger (21lb pound orange tabby) is going to have to be put down due to cancer....
I am very surprised by how much this is affecting me...I just can't imagine not waking up and having him jump on my shoulder and following me around like a puppy dog while I get ready for work...mornings will be so empty without such....for 14 years he gave me such joy..
Leopold is a great name...perhaps our next rescue will bear his name....

Do you have any particular breed in mind?

I haven't read the whole thread, but I am going to offer the same advice I'm sure others have offered...please provide a home for a kitty (or two) from your local shelter. I have rescued four from shelters/rescues. Two of them were headed for the 'green mile', and I got them out just in time. They have both turned into two of the most loving cats one could hope for...
