HELP PLEASE. My laptop computer suddenly went blue screen of death with a message that some error was detected and windows was being disabled (or shut down) to protect my computer. I rebooted, same thing. I unplugged, pulled the battery and waited, then plugged it all back in and again, same message. I tried to start in safe mode...an option came up to "repair your computer", I chose that option. It says "windows is installing files", then the "microsoft windows" with the scrolling lights, then the same blue screen message. So, I tried in safe mode again, only choosing safe mode instead of the "repair your computer" option. Same response.
This response has been the same through all the attempts.
I pulled the hard drive and put it back in...I pulled the memory chips and reset them. Please. All of my work search files (resumes, cover letters, work history etc...) are on that computer. All of my Parole board files from the attacker on parole are on that computer. All of my pictures, are on that computer. I use to have an external hard drive, but something happened and it quit working. I can't buy a new computer because I am looking for work. and I can't look for work if my computer is gone :(
Please...I know there are many computer savvy people here. Please help me if anything can be done.

Once you know what is wrong, you can make the decisions on fixing it.
The vista info is on the same disc. It has ista, xp 8.2 reinstall, and windows 7 8.3 reinstall

it might. some systems are more fussy than others. There should be a bank 0 and bank 1.. 0 is the one to place a single chip in.
Some laptops also have memory that is part of the motherboard, you can’t remove or replace this memory.
Try one chip, if it comes on and BSD try the other.. If both produce the same results it’s likely just a corrupted windows file.
at that point a windows re-install is in order. There are ways to do a reinstall with out deleting everything. However, if you can get it to a command prompt using a boot disc, or windows CD it’s a good idea to copy your files to something (thumb drive) in case the reload goes wrong.
BTW I have the exact same dell.. Nice machine when it works.
If there is one, he should also try resetting the video card, as that may be the where the memory problem is.
Wimfsf.sys is the “Windows IMage File System Mini-filter”.

The last Windows that would boot to a prompt was Win 98SE.
where would I find a video card if it has one?
Both of the memory chips gave the same result, no change to the reason I posted this thread
Laptops usually don’t have a video card.
What kind of machine are you posting on now?
They might be ways to work with it?
A basic, bare minimum desktop. Dell with no write capabilities
If you have a memory problem it should show up on the POST. But if you have the POST shortcutted in the BIOS you will get no codes or beeps. Disable FASTBOOT in your BIOS before you do anything with your drive. Then you will get some good info on your hardware situation.
Looks like graphics are part of the motherboard...
Well, I’m stuck. Did you try inserting that recovery disk you found and starting it?
I have seen many hard drives fail in the boot sector and still have the data intact. One of my systems has had a drive that failed as a boot drive and have used it for a 2Nd several years now. Some newer desktops use the same connectors as laptop. If this is so you might try putting the laptop drive into the desktop. If it is a failed boot sector problem you get the close to the same errors.
Just tried the “start in safe mode with command prompt” and it did the same exact thing it has done with every other option I tried. It totally ignore the selection and started in regular and went to the blue screen.
Trying that now, but it’s still very slow starting...looks like it’s going to reject it and still give the blue screen
If there is a long number that is a error code on BSOD the Google or bing it.
Laptop and desktop not compatible...it won’t fit.
The backup disc failed. Still got the blue screen. I think I”m going to cry!

Yup. In the last 2 months, I know two people who’ve experienced this with Dell laptops specifically.
