Vanity: Best protective iPad case?

Posted on 07/17/2012 5:55:40 PM PDT by goodwithagun

I received an iPad 2 for my birthday, but it will really be a family device. I need a protective case for it, considering my son is almost four, my daughter is almost one, and my husband still uses a TracFone because of his track record with phones. Any suggestions?

I have an otter box. Get what you want, but get one.

$200 bucks to get the screen replaced. I know...I took it out of the case for an hour. I dropped it face down on our concrete patio. Not good.

With the case on, it’s been dropped, had coffee spilled on it, and just about everything in between.

I will second the motion on the Griffin survivor case. MIL-SPEC, easy to put on, includes a screen cover. Cheaper than the Otterbox, same basic concept of protection. Both have a hard plastic case with soft rubber outer layer.

The one advantage of the Otterbox is a hard plastic cover for the screen when not in use. I see a lot of people with the Otterbox that leave that cover at home.

Im not going to recommend any particular brand, but I suggest two qualities to look for.

1. Multifunctional - don’t just get a cover. Make sure that it can do another thing for you, like act as a keyboard or fold up so it also acts as a stand.

2. Make sure it will do the job of being able to protect your Ipad. Try testing it by dropping a bowling ball onto it, while it’s covering your Ipad and see if it’s protected. If it doesn’t protect it, promptly take the cover back where you bought and get your money back.:)

I don’t use the stand. The one mine came with is flimsy. Holding the flap open to take pictures is awkward. But it well protect even from light rain.

My iPad enables me to completely take my real estate business full mobile, and I love the iHome case with built in Bluetooth keyboard.

It’s not a case per se but I got the Ghost Armor applied to mine. It’s a clear membrane for front and back (with notched corners to mimic the iPad contours). Fantastic protection from scratches and the biggest advantage is that it repels oils, smears, etc. on the touchscreen.

The Ghost Armor allows the iPad to be the lightweight, immediate-feedback wonder it was intended to be. Obviously travel and/or kids can necessitate a proper case but there is a tradeoff with additional weight. Even with a case I recommend the Ghost Armor - they have kiosks in malls where they will apply the product and use a heater/dryer unit to set it.

Otterbox. Six months and our 3 year old hasn’t broken it yet!

Do you think a shockproof case could fit over it with the armor?

Great stuff. I have their iPad sleeve. Lots of compliments.
100 year warranty. Looks better the more beat up it gets. Slogan is “they’ll fight overt when you’re dead” for a reason. Unabashedly made of multiple leathers. Conservative small business values.
Get it.

I may sound like a jerk, but don’t let your 1 or 4 year old near the iPad. I really enjoy the standard Apple case I got one in green. Gives me basic protection and doubles as a stand it rocks!

Do you sew? If you goggle “pattern for iPad case”, you’ll get hits for cases & (it looks like) how-tos. NuFoam (which isn’t really foam but a thick/ dense, stiffer polyester than quilt filler) would be great for that.

Last December, before I even bought my wife the iPhone (4S). I bought an Otterbox to put it in. Those Griffin case also look quite impressive.

But I’m a I lady so it wouldn’t be a man purse lol! I do have a bit of a handbag fettish, but my precious little ones require a more durable iPad case than Dooney, Coach, or even Gucci can create. I will admit that I have considered emailing these crafters of lovely handbags to create a fashionable bag with which I can conceal carry. I’m afraid of their answers though!

When I need a shoulder strap to carry the iPad, I use a real WWII canvas map case. Perfect fit, good coverage, $20, great manly vintage look.

“don’t let your 1 or 4 year old near the iPad”

Ha! My daughter’s second word was “iPad”.
She sneaks off with it to play games and watch cartoons (including under our bed first thing in the morning). She’s learning algebra on it now with the DragonBox app...and she’s 4.

They will certainly have limited access to it, but my luck is that my husband or I will accidentally do something. We frequently travel and I can just see it sliding off the truck seat onto the pavement! The iPad is a gift to me from my parents. They will flip if I harm it but make excuses if their grandkids harm it. I keep telling my son that those two people aren’t my parents, they are two old people trying to get onto heaven lol! The woman kept “the belt” behind the kitchen door well in to our college years yet weeps when I swat my son’s behind.

Lol, I’m a chick so manliness is not a factor. Tell me more about this algebra app though.
