Kind of a sad story out of Jackson Michigan. His kids lived blocks away and hadn't talked to him in some 18 months.

I was planning to joke around about this but then I read the whole article.
It’s not funny anymore; just sad, and a little poignant.
And no, I didn’t misspell pungent.
(Well, ok, maybe one *little* joke.)

I used to do lawn work for an elderly woman a few miles from this one. She had a life sized doll that she said kept her company. She wasn’t crazy, just lonely plus she used the doll as a means of security.

She has not been arrested but is being investigated for financial fraud. Chase admits cashing Ziglers benefit checks after his death.
Well allrighty then - at least there was a method to her madness.
To: EveningStar
Maybe she was lonely, but she also was cashing his checks. Not sure her story about loneliness is believable... unless she made herself believe it.
To: EveningStar
She just wanted a corpseman to keep her company.

She may not have been certifiably crazy but she was WIERD by any standards.
When I was little, my best friends’ parents had childless friends who came to visit and brought “Witty Bear” with them every time. Witty Bear was a stuffed animal who had to sit at the table and slept with them.
Desperate loneliness? Is a dog or cat too messy or what?

Desperate loneliness? I guess the appeal was that WB didn’t shed like a cat or dog.

Aaahhh, Jackson Michigan where I was born & raised. Sad story, but I have to laugh a bit too. This is exactly the kind of story that WOULD put Jackson in the news.
Oh well, still the birthplace of the Republican Party at least. (sigh)
Also the largest walled prison in the US at one time, not sure about that anymore since the talk of closing it.

Maybe she was lonely, but she also was cashing his checks. Not sure her story about loneliness is believable... unless she made herself believe it.I think she did believe it. If her intent in cashing the checks was fraud, why keep the body around? I'm not excusing the check cashing, but I think this woman definitely needs help.
