Past 12 months warmest ever recorded in United States

(CNN) -- The mainland United States, which was largely recovering Monday from a near-nationwide heat wave, has experienced the warmest 12 months since record-keeping began in 1895, a top government science and weather agency announced Monday.

The report from the National Climatic Data Center, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, does not take into account blistering heat from this month, with 2,116 high temperature marks either broken or tied between July 2 and July 8 in communities nationwide.

It's a spinoff from all the people (who came here to work in the oil patch despite a serious housing shortage) who lived in thin walled campers up here in Western ND last winter, praying it wouldn't hit 30 below and stay there.

It worked, apparently, it was the mildest of my 33 winters up here. (8^D)

         We often hear the old settlers refer to "the winter of the deep snow."  Fifty years ago Illinois citizens were wont to refer to events as having happened before or after "the winter of the deep snow."  This great weather drama occurred during the winter of 1830-31.  On Christmas Eve, 1830, it began snowing, the storm coming from the northwest, and it kept on snowing.  Later the weather grew bitterly cold and the wind became a veritable hurricane.  The snow began piling high in drifts or was sifted deep over the prairies, as far as the eye could see.           
  For days and days this condition continued.  Rail fences entirely disappeared and the snow reached the lower branches of the trees.  Domestic animals and game were first to suffer, for all vegetation was buried deep and the steams were locked in ice and filled from bank to bank with great drifts of snow.  The animals had neither food, water, nor shelter.  Thousands of domestic and wild animals perished.  Settlers' cabins were lost in the terrifying expanse of snow.  Day after day for weeks the mercury registered 10 degrees below zero or lower.  Hunters caught away from home reached their homes with difficulty or perished on the prairies or in the forests.
Many of the bodies of those perishing were not found until spring had melted away their snow graves.  For sixty days there was an almost unbroken succession of sunless days.  In the central part of the state the average depth of the snow was three or four feet.  On top was a thick, hard crust which bore the weight of the heaviest man.  Wild game in Illinois decreased rapidly as a result of the big snow.  Unable to run because their small feet sank where men were borne up, thousands of deer were slaughtered for food, others wantonly.
Much game perished of exposure and starvation, and for years afterwards their bones lay upon the prairies whitening in the sun.  Thousands of wolves perished, and when the snow disappeared they were skinned by the settlers and their skins made into robes and fur coats.  --Hillsboro News

REMEMBERS THE DROUGHT OF 1854
J. F. Phillips of this city remembers the drouth of 1854, although at the time he was only a chunk of a boy.  According to very old timers the drouth of 1854 was comparable to this one of 1930 in duration and severity, but possibly not so widespread.  Mr. Phillips' folks were then living in Franklin County, Mo., and there according to his recollection the drouth began in April and there was no rain until sometime in the following September. 
In February of the following year the family moved to Franklin county, Ill., and Mr. Phillips was old enough before the Civil War was brought to a close the enlist in the 15th Illinois Cavalry.  He is not as spry as he was then, but is able to be on the streets almost every day and still finds interest in life.

I love in bullhead City, AZ. Though to be the hottest point in the US. Today, it was about 130 degrees. it’s been horrible.

I was Bullhead City a decade ago when it was 125, but Death Valley, California holds the record for the hottest "offical" high temp in North America at 136 degrees. It was a balmy 122 at Furnace Creek in Death Valley today (I live nearby).

As you know, its just local weather. While the East Coast (where most of the media live) was having a scorching heat wave, here it in the desert of California, it was 89 on the Fourth of July. Now the media are all screaming about “Climate Change” after the heat wave. What morons. It was 105 here today, normal for this time of year.

Record keeping in the US began around 1886 or 1888, the year my grandfather was born. That's only about 125 years ago, give or take, and before that there was Poor Richard's Almanack, whose guesses were most times more accurate than those of the today's weather services.....and more honest as well.

It's hot in the east accompanied by violent storms, there's drought in the west accompanied by raging fires and conflicting reports on the news about the ice caps and CO2 levels in the atmosphere. The weather is something everyone has had to deal with throughout the millenia not just over the past 125 years where it receives prime time on tv and radio, whose morning reports can be forgotten by afternoon and in print whose reports when inaccurate are never retracted.

Suppose we could all do what the 576 folks in Foggy Bottom do in summer time.....vacation or campaign in their districts a redress to the inclement summer time weather. Or maybe the chilling at the All Star game representing their favorite team's players, sitting in box seats with a/c.

So what the hell is the L/MSM going to do in say ten years or so if some current analysis comes true in predicting a gradual switch to cold temperatures for every season throughout North America as well as perhaps the rest of the world. The goofs will probably still harp the thoughts of the UN and the willing contributors of AGW to manage words to prove the earth is cooling due to global warming and climate change caused by humans. The $$$holes should be lined up and then horse whipped for starters.

It sure would be nice if some of that heat would migrate up to Alaska. Our summer has been so cold we’ve turned the heat back on, used the fireplace and I’m wearing my winter shirts. I expect to see frost any day now!
