Russian marines deployed to Syria: What are their intentions?
U.S. Naval Institute ^ | 6/18/12 | Mark Adomanis

The announcement of two Russian amphibious warships bound for Syria is strange. Not because the Russians are above meddling in a conflict zone or are committed to the principle of non-interference. But because deploying ships and marines represents an escalation in the Syrian conflict — an escalation the Russians have expressly avoided. On the same day news first broke about the deployment of Russian warships, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, totally in line with its previous position, announced that it was seeking the early resumption of the UN mission in Syria.

With conflicting messages coming from different parts of the Russian government, it’s unclear what precisely Russian intentions actually are.

One possibility is that the Russian Ministry of Defense was victorious in an internal bureaucratic struggle against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Russian Defense Ministry convinced Russian president Vladimir Putin and the political leadership that it was time for Russia to stop dithering and draw a line in the sand. Under this scenario Russia will under no circumstances accept Assad’s departure and that it will do everything in its power to ensure he survives, even if that involves committing small numbers of troops.

The Russians are well within their rights to defend their interests at their naval base in Syria and they’re also well within their rights to stand with their ally. It is NATO and the UN that need to keep out of Syria. We have no justifiable reason to get involved there and I cannot believe how many people want the US to attack Syria.

Let the Russians do the job of eliminating Muzzies.

Thanks to Obamadorkface, we certainly are not.

As far as I’m concerned we should pull out of the mideast with the exception of surrounding Israel with a ring of steel if they want it.

Obama has been playing with the Middle East...and with our help and our money, the Muslim ba****** have an even stronger foothold.

Russia is fed up with Obama and isn't waiting until after Obama's unelection.

Syria has abetted and given sanctuary to terrorists who have attacked Americans in Iraq, and who have attacked our ally in Israel. Syria is one of the chief allies of the principle supporter of terror in the whole world, Iran, a nation that has expressely stated that it desires the destruction of the US.

You bet we have serious interests in what goes on in Syria.

The best thing that could happen would be for the dictator there to fall to forces committed to a secular Republic and basic civil rights for all of its citizens. That is what we should have been seeking out and supporting this entire time...long before Russia ever sent these forces towards the area.

Such an outcome would have been a stab in the heart to Iran, and would have allieviated significant tnesions towards Lebannon, Israel and Iraq.

But now, we are left standing around with our hands in our pockets as the Russians move to bolster all of those things I just mentioned, which they view as in their interests to distract and to tie up our resources and that of our allies...and to bleed us whenever they can.

Obama is not interested in the US best interests. He has shown and is showing that he in fact supports the radical Ilsamics and will assist their rise to power wherever it happens and he can be involved.

He is doing so blatanlty now in Egypt, where it was obvious that the overthrow of our friend and ally, a man who was indeed brutal, but who held the peace with Israel for over 25 years, and who protected the Christian minorities in his nation, while coming down hard on the radical Islamics...as I say, it was obvious that that overthrow would lead to the Muslim Bortherhood trying to step into the vaccum, which they have done. Now, this weekend the Egyptian military has moved to forestall and end that attempt by these radicals, and has announced the disolving of the parliment and new elections. Obama responded to that by demanding that the Military turn power over to the ISlamic fundamentalists.

Anyhow, we do have interests, significant interests, in seeing Syria free...but not in seeing it go as another radical, fundamentalist Islamic state that stays in bed with Iran.

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION INFILTRATED BY MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD

That's the real stroy behind the Arab "Spring," and Obama's involvement in it.

But what harm could it do?

“people want the US to attack Syria”!
I want the U.S. to simultaniously nuke Tehran, Damacus, Mecca, Medina and Alexandria, so yeah I guess that could be considered “attacking”.

“Tank transport ships”?......maybe they’re bringing back some Syrian tanks that were in Russia for their 3000 mile oil change.

Russia is trying to insure the survival of the Assad regime. I don't think they are worried the U.S. will attack - they are probably more concerned Israel will attack. If Israel can knock out Syria's air capabilities, it makes a MUCH shorter flight to Tehran.

The Russians also know what is buried in the Bekkaa Valley and are not anxious for it see the light of day, publically.

Remember, last week the Russians essentially fired a warning shot over Israel's bow:

Was he speaking of Egypt, the USA, or both?

You cannot fault the Russians for trying to prevent Obama from doing to Syria what he claims he did in Egypt or Libya. The outcomes for those two Arab springs were horrendous for the regions stability. Russia and China will be going all in and Obama and Hillary are both idiot DINO’s. Remember that the RINO McCain supported the Libyan NATO involvement. This is RINO/DINO fighting the Russian/Chinese (Eastern Axis) for control of Middle Eastern Oil. And we are on the idiotic side with those two leading us. Guaranteed abject failure.
