Some years ago, a mountain lion prowling about Roy Rogers' ranch stole a new pair of Roy's boots and fancied them his own personal chew toy.

Incensed, Roy jumped on Trigger and rode off after the big cat. After a brief chase, he came back to the ranch still riding Trigger with the lion's body slung over a pack horse.

Upon seeing the scene at his arrival, Dale Evans shouted out to him:

"Pardon me Roy, Is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?"

In another video, someone speculated that he might be confusing them with prey. I think he just likes his toys.

I’ve often thought that a well fed cat that brings back dead prey to your house is trying to contribute to the communal food supply when he or she can. Perhaps this cat figures that the food supply seems to be ample, so he will bring back stuff (clothes) his humans seem to prize.

lock that cat indoors at night. Problem solved. These people don’t want the cat to stop or they would do just that.

Our 12 year old female was quite the hunter in her day but doesn’t bother much anymore, until this spring. Our 2 barn kittens have grown and become great hunters. The other day I heard Sadie (the older one) talking with her mouth full. She was walking up from the barn very proudly with a chipmunk in her mouth, announcing all the way that she had a prize. When she got up by the house she dropped it and it took off like a bullet, she didn’t even hurt it. I told Sadie not to worry she was not going to be replaced.

What a cute story.
Cats are just the cutest. I love them.
We have a big black tom who is a barn cat.
Excellent ratter. He doesn’t eat his catches, but he always puts them in the same prominent place so we’re sure to see them.
LOL

Our 2 barn cats are siblings a male and a female. They are both fixed and have their shots. Fluffy is the female and is mostly black with mottled in brown and orange, and she’s a shorthair. The other is a long haired orange make, fat and bushy. Since we got them close to Halloween our daughter named him Pumpkin but I call hin Pumpkin the Hut. They both keep our goat company. Pumpkin loves to sit on her back.

Buddy the tabby came screaming into the bedroom the other morning with a baby mouse in his mouth. Didn’t hurt it. He then left and came back a few minutes later with another one. I searched all over the place looking for a mouse nest. Nothing. I still have no idea where he got those meeces.

We also had a cat many years ago who hunted killed and ate everything except for a baby chipmunk it brought back, eyes still not opened. Our daughter raised it on goats milk and then hamster food. It was really tame and would run up and down her and sit on her shoulder. She named him Little Peanut. Ah memories!

A previous cat for whom I served was on the front porch one afternoon making a terrible, growling racket. I went outside to check on him, and he was laying on something and growling. He stood up, looked where he had been lying, and a little baby bunny rolled over and started hopping away.

The cat grabbed him, put him back where he had been, then sat down on him. Growled for a while, stood up, took a look. The bunny tried to hop away again.

This went of for a while (with me laughing). The cat tried several different things ... laying on his stomach, rolling over on the bunny, pushing on him with his front paws, sitting on him ... all with the same result.

I don’t know if he was playing with the bunny or if he really just didn’t know how to kill the little thing. I had compassion on it, grabbed the cat, pinned him up inside the house, and returned the bunny (who seemed to be just fine) to the woods next door.

Boy was the cat mad. I slept pretty lightly for a few nights, just in case.

Our older one who is now gone and brought home the baby chipmunk would sit on her prey and even would practice in the house sitting on her toys, like she was hatching them. It was a hoot.
