Woodward and Bernstein share first Washington Post byline in 36 years

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, arguably the two most famous newspaper reporters in American history, did something on Sunday they haven't done in 36 years: They shared a byline in the Washington Post.

Woodward and Bernstein, who are on a mini-publicity tour surrounding the 40th anniversary of the Watergate break-ins, published a joint opinion essay for the Post's Outlook section about what they've learned since first reporting on the scandal: President Richard Nixon, who was forced to resign in the wake of Watergate, was "far worse than we thought."

Spin City. This coming from the Apologists for the Demonrats, the party of every big city corrupt machine, the Kennedys, Lyndon Johnson, and now the protectors of voter fraud nationwide, Obama, Holder and the rest of the crooks. Oh W&B you’re just such good people, just like the phony do-gooders on the
Watergate committees. Remember those holier-than-thou speeches and hearings?

I just got done decoding the last Debbie Whatshername Sergeant Schultz interview on PMSNBC. Here is what I came up with. I don’t think it’s a Cook Book, but it’s close enough for Government Work.

RED - ALERT (STOP) DIVERT - ATTENTION - AWAY - FROM - THE - OBAMA - ADMINISTRATION - AT - ALL - COSTS (STOP) MAN - YOUR - PROPOGANDA - STATIONS (STOP) THAT - IS - ALL.

Yes, this is what passes for journ “O” lism today. Going back to Nixon, but avoiding any investigative journalism efforts with the current admin.

Woodward and Bernstein's fame is mainly based on information spoon-fed to them by "Deep Throat", who turned out to be nothing more than a petty little bureaucrat who was p*ssed off because he didn't get the promotion which he thought he deserved.

Millions of innocent Indo-Chinese ended up being butchered at the hands of the Communists all because one worthless little bureaucrat thought revenge (and his career) was more important than national security. Woodward and Bernstein were merely his tools to accomplish that revenge.

Schieffer’s comments are really ironic: “Why would anyone break into a political headquarters? What secrets could possibly be found there? That’s where you kept the yard signs and such. ... Why would anyone—especially anyone as far ahead in the polls as Nixon was at that point—break in to a campaign headquarters?”

These questions were never answered in the media and probably never even asked. The reason for the break-in was that the Dems were suspected of running a prostitution ring for political purposes. Of course, since Nixon was the target, nobody in the press ever pursued that end of the story even though Schieffer claims it was the first thing to cross his mind.

Mark Felt self-identified himself as “Deep Throat” shortly before he died, perhaps his last chance for 15 minutes of fame at a time nobody cared. See my link in post #26.

Nixon committed the unforgivable crime of beating McGovern in a nationwide landslide. No one in the MSM voted for Nixon or knew anyone who had. Clearly, Nixon had to be punished.

If the news is Watergate!

Then this must be an election year!

If the Obama administration were doing the same things Nixon did (and they probably are, or worse), FReepers would be demanding their hides.

And rightly so.

Crimes are crimes, and wrong is wrong. I can’t understand those who are so blindly partisan that they are unable to admit what Nixon and his cronies did. It’s ridiculous to brush off his malfeasance by saying everyone does it. That doesn’t work as a teenager’s futile argument, and it certainly doesn’t work when applied to events of this magnitude.

May the crooked and evil Obama administration be brought to justice as was a crooked and evil administration 40 years ago.

(Wow. Has it really been that long?)

Where was Obama and how many doobies had he smoked by the time Woodward and Bernstein first reported on Watergate?

My take on it is that Woodstein is angling for Part II of the Hollywood epic while the actors who had played them in Part I are still breathing.

This must be their ‘we are still relevant’ plea before they wink off into boomer retirement obscurity. Oh well, they’ll still get gigs on NPR once every ten years.

i laugh at them because they keep raking in the dollars pandering to aging leftists and their hatred for Nixon while the man responsible, Mark Felt, who was living in a converted garage in his daughter’s house, was derided by the two for “trying to make money” off his role in Watergate by penning a book 30+ years after the fact

Here is an excerpt from the book “Hired Gun” by veteran political strategist Alex Ray:

[That conversation was between Severin [Beliveau] and me. As Chairman of the Democrat State Chairmen, Beliveau shared an office and telephone with Spencer Oliver at the DNC headquarters. It was Oliver’s phone that was bugged and it was our conversation that made it into the Watergate tapes.

Confused at the close relationship between the party chairmen, I asked naively why we were having lunch together on my first day n the job. Beliveau said it was to “lay down the rules” because I came from a state where politics were quite a bit nastier.

“What rules?” I asked.

“We do things a little differently here in Maine”, he said. “If you go to a woman’s apartment and see one of us leaving [Beliveau & Anthony Buxton], just smile and say hello. We share our women in Maine”.

That proved to be true and years later even made it into a book about Watergate by Pulitzer prize winner J. Anthony Lucas of the New York Times. In his book about the scandal, Lucas wrote about a tape he had heard from the Republican bugging of the DNC in which two men from Maine were discussing the women with whom they slept. That conversation was between Severin and me.]

In 1972 Bill Clinton was chairman of Texans for McGovern and was in contact with R Spencer Oliver during Texas Democratic state convention in June 1972. Has anyone ever explored the incredibly obvious question about whether Clnton was a client of the Watergate callgirl ring, using campaign money to buy hookers??

Clinton’s aide in the McGovern campaign was Taylor Branch who ghost-wrote John Dean’s book Blind Ambition. Taylor Branch currently is the very well paid director of the “Clinton Oral History Project”—believe it or not.

Severin Beliveau’s son Emmett is Obama’s chief advance man.
