I’d imagine the further you get from Minnesota the harder it is to find. Since I’m in iowa, its not that difficult. Yuengling is impossible to find where I am. It just plain not shipped west of the mississippi. period. As for authentic kolsch beers and altbiers from cologne and dusseldorf, I don’t know. I havn’t tried to locate any of those yet.

Have you ever ordered from More Beer? Mr. Sg has made some great-tasting brews from them.

I don’t know if he is retired from commenting. But when he sent out an FReepMail to the ping list, about a month ago, he said he does not visit FR very often and would like someone to take over the Homebrewing list. So I replied I would be glad take on the task. He just replied today.

I hesitate to recommend anything to an experienced brewer because my tastes were very pedestrian before my husband started brewing. I’ll get back to you when I’m more accomplished unless my brain turns into oatmeal from too much sampling.

I bottled the Cranberry mead this past Friday it will be Thanksgiving time frame before I try it. Because I knew going in to this mead it would be a year long project I can wait. I will report then. The mead had been in a secondary since the middle of Jan. It did have a nice taste and was around 13.5 ABV but still needs some time to mellow. Nice red/blush color and clear as glass.

My tastes run to the amber - reds - browns and stouts. Although I did brew up a blonde Honey Ale on Friday - hope it turns out good.

Mead appears to be a whole lot more trouble than ale. The time frame will make it a real pain to tinker with recipes. I’ve done a batch of ale in 2.5 weeks.

Yep! I agree on a quick ale is the way to go. Actually the mead is no trouble at all. Just set it aside and forget about it. It just takes a lot of time before it is mature and ready consume. I doubt I will do many meads. I want my beer!

Hubby brewed a blonde honey ale from Midwest and we liked it. The only note he left in his beer log was that it had a citrus note. The very first thing he made was from HomeBrewStuff—Kolsch. It had a caramel, nutty flavor.
The primary advantage of ordering from More Beer is that they don’t charge for shipping. Their stuff is good, but our notes are too sketchy (he thought I documented, I thought he documented....)
Happy Brewing!

the worst swill i ever had was “Iron City” beer

We bought a one-quart CAN for $.40 cents (all we could scrape together) when I was 18 (ok maybe 16) and even we wouldn’t drink it.

Actually all I was asking is, what has tasted good to you? My wife is not a Beer drinker but will taste a sip or two of my efforts. She thinks my Nut Brown Ale is to strong. That is why I brewed up the Honey Ale. It is a Blonde Ale and supposed to be mellower than my darker brews.

That reminds me of one of my favorite blonde jokes- the punchline is:

“was it pastuerized?” “no- just up to my t*ts”

OK, now I get you. I didn’t care too much for the Belgian pale ale from More Beer. (Too strong.) I hate to post this but my favorite beer was Natural Light. After having my husband’s brews, I don’t want NL any more. If you like, I can send you a list of the stuff that we’ve liked. I’d be more comfortable if I could include a flavor description and maybe a Likert scale (0 is strongly dislike, 5 is strongly like.) Beer evaluation is a serious responsibility and I refuse to mislead you. I really liked the Kolsch (sp?). Will be more conscientious and keep in touch.

I have brewed a couple of Belgian Ales. They were OK but took quite a while to condition in the bottles. Sure I would like to see your like it list.
