I watched them LIVE on Fox. Several family members are at his house in Oceanside. To say they’re devastated and in shock are understatements. Junior has left so many loved ones behind.
A lot played into the downfall of boxing, corruption in the sport had a lot to do with it too. But yeah, anytime you see a permanently punch drunk Ali it’s hard to watch any of the combat sports the same. It’s getting that way with football for sure.
Marcellus Wiley(sp?) is emotional on ESPN talking about his team-mate JR. Seau.....hard to watch.
This seems to be more of a rejection and inability to accept it. I watched the family speak and it seems to harbor more on pride than anything else.
I know nothing about his personal life, but it saddens me to think of how he must have felt to have done such a desperate thing.
The big problem is going to be insurance....especially at the high school level. If insurance costs skyrocket, more and more schools will abandon football.
Seau seemed like one of those guys that could have had a pretty good post-career.....I would have pegged him as a natural to be an NFL analyst for some network.

Yeah, and even if the insurance doesn’t the parents will. Really at this point if I were a parent I wouldn’t even consider letting my kid play football, I love the sport dearly but it’s a parental duty to not volunteer your kid for permanent brain damage.
I believe more parents will come to that conclusion.....which pretty much means that more and more, players are going to come from "the Hood" where it will still be thought of as a way out of there, and therefore they would be willing to take the risks.
We’re told Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and kids yesterday saying, “Love you.” They all responded, but didn’t suspect anything was wrong. We’re told he last saw his kids 3 weeks ago.
Sources close to Seau tell us family members didn’t notice any signs of depression in recent weeks.
The fact Seau chose to shoot himself in the chest seems like a premeditated decision — considering several NFL players have recently killed themselves in a similar fashion in order to preserve their brains for research purposes ... in the wake of new studies which appear to connect football-related concussions to suicidal behavior.

Absolutely. When I think of some of the creeps on the NFL network, I know he would have been such a welcome contrast there. He had such enthusiasm, such a wonderful smile and attitude.
I watched every game he played with the Pats, and enjoyed watching him play.
I suspect this issue is not concussion related, but others who had seen his earlier playing days may have a better grasp. I think he had marital/family/girlfriend problems that were magnified by being out of the game.
Sad.
Is his restaurant still open? When we were stationed at Pendleton, we went there often, and it seemed very successful. I’m a lifelong Pats fan, but I loved Seau long before he was a Pat. He was talented and an absolute pleasure to watch. He seemed to find child-like joy in playing, and his apparent love for the game and his teammates made watching a joy.
I saw a high school kid (Scotty) take a hit on the field, run off and collapse. He died later of a brain aneurism. It destroyed the sport for me. That year I saw a letter from Joe Paterno who wrote that kids should not play tackle football until they are in high school.
It’s too rough. I got injured several times in football but only once in Rugby.
There is a easy way to reduce the injuries: get rid of the helmets and shoulder pads.
Sad news. I found him to be a very inspirational player. I like watching old guys (old by NFL standards) play with the fire and passion of youngsters.
Sad isn’t the word. “Heart-breaking” is more like it. Although I’m a Giants fan, I’ve been to Dolphins training camp and spoke to Junior a couple of times. (Seau also played for the Fish.) He was always very polite to the fans, especially the kids.
Prayers to his family. He will be missed.
