Hotel reccy in Panama City FL

Looks like I'm going to be going to Panama City FL on business and have to stay overnight. Unfortunately I won't get to go to the beach! :-( The closest hotel to where I'm going looks to be the Wingate in Lynn Haven. It seems to have good reviews on line. Is this a decent part of town for a woman alone? Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks!

Panama City is like any other Beach Community along the redneck riviera; well, maybe a little bit more redneck. As long as you are not walking the strip alone at night you will be fine. I am sure the Hotel people can direct you to a nice place to eat without having some hormone raging youngster trying to hump your leg while you eat.

The beach is ok. Once you cross the bridge, you are in a third world meth community that smells like a paper mill.

The Wingate is about 2 miles from my house. It’s not in an exciting, high tourism part of the county, but it’s on a major road and is fairly new and looks nice on the outside. Most of the crazy is confined to the beach area, I wouldn’t expect any serious crime around the Wingate.

Be careful with that link at #2. I plugged in my town and the color code is the exact opposite of what it should be.

The country club area is shown as highest crime and MLK Blvd is shown as lowest crime.

I have a condo on the east end of the beach near st andrews. Low density, low rise...not one of the nouveau stucco disasters that erupted in the past decade. Freepmail if you change your mind about your hotel.

ps..It's kind of a family place. No one should try to hump your leg

I stay at that very hotel every time I go see my parents. Never had any issues. It has indoor swimming pool and a heated indoor jazucci also. Rooms were always nice and had free breakfast.

Im in Tallahassee(the 8th most dangerous city in the nation). But I did work at the Back Porch in 2009 and met some true trailer trash). Probably the most stagnant economy in the state.

Make sure you're not on the "home value" menu tab. That's rated "highest" to "lowest". The "crime" menu tab is rated "safest" to "least safe".

Atlanta seems to be about right.
