'Titanic' Theme Song Makes Me Want To Throw Up, Kate Winslet Says

And the Oscar for the most refreshingly candid actress goes to ... "Titanic" star Kate Winslet!
Check out the above video of Winslet making the media rounds in advance of the re-release of "Titanic," the mega-blockbuster that made her a household name and earned her an Academy Award nomination for best actress. Winslet had two options going into this interview. She could have done the whole Hollywood-smiley-face thing and gushed on and on about how the 1997 movie changed her life, about how much she loves it, about the on-screen magic she shared with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio ... blah, blah, blah.
Or Winslet could have told it like it is.
Winslet said that she feels "like throwing up" when she hears the soaring theme song of "Titanic." In fact, she said, the signature Celine Dion ballad "haunts" her.
"I wish I could say, 'Oh listen everybody! It's the Celine Dion song!' But I don't. I just have to sit there, you know, kinda straight-faced, with a massive internal eye roll," she said.
It's no wonder she feels that way: "My Heart Will Go On" follows Winslet wherever she goes.
"Every time I go into either some kind of a bar in a hotel where there's a live pianist or into a restaurant where they are changing their music according to who walks in the door ... it's thrilling for people to 'surprise' me with the Celine Dion song," she said. (snip)
"It rather haunts me," she said of the song. "Bless you, Celine, but it does rather haunt me."

“I thought the movie was unwatchable.”
I tried to watch it last night for the first time and I gave up after 10 minutes, as I felt nauseous ...
that song ruined butch cassidy and the sundance kid, movie was going along fine til then heh.
I loved ‘Titanic’ and thought it deserved every one of the 14 nominations and 11 Oscars it won, including best picture. It’s no wonder the movie grossed nearly $2 billion. I put the movie up there as one of the best movies I ever had the pleasure to watch.
I find it amusing that so many people think they have to join the mindless bandwagon/chorus of all those “cool” people who bash the film in order, I guess, to prove how “cool” they themselves are.
Whatever. One thing is for sure - - James Cameron has about a cool hundred million dollars to play with.
He made millions on Titanic because every fifteen year-old girl in America went to the movie to gush all over DiCaprio. And then she went back with three of her friends and watched it three or four more times.
It wasn’t the entire country that loved the movie. Just the ninth-grade.
And, apparently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
and not one award for screenwriting or acting. Go figure.
Sure. And the English Patient won nine Academy Awards. It was one of the most boring movies I have ever watched in my life. For the life of me, I cannot see why it caught anyone’s attention. I don’t care what the Academy declares as the winner of awards. Their awards hold no value for me.
I loved the Movie being a long time Titanic Buff. But I watched it for all the awesome interior shots that the Director took great pains to get accurate. However when I went to see it at the theater I stood and cheered when DiCaprio's blue face slipped beneath the waves. My wife was embarrassed and slugged me but I got a lot of fist pumps from the other Males in the theater.
Of course DiCaprio's later Movies like The Aviator and J. Edgar are well done and I give him his due for those.
Never saw it so I can't comment. I have heard from others it was a bore, though. They even made fun of it on a Seinfeld episode. Another one was 'Shakespeare In Love' (? I think that's it). Those are movies it would never occur to me to see simply because of their titles. To each his own. I loved 'Titanic' and thought it was a magnificent movie.
I am probably one of the few people who thought he did a nice job with that creepy movie about the insane asylum, 'Shutter Island'. Also, I enjoyed his roles in 'The Departed' and 'Inception'.
Yeah if I never hear that song again I’d be happy.
I like all those as well But I thought his portrayals of Hoover and Hughes were grade "A" acting. I could believe I was watching those historical characters. He got both characters down to a "T" with mannerisms and voice inflections.
I love learning about the history of the Titanic. I liked the movie because of that. DiCaprio’s acting in the movie was pitiful, I thought. And the love story itself didn’t flow well between DiCaprio and Winslett. I didn’t believe it. And in a good movie you forget that they are acting and you simply fall into the story. That never happened for me.
Some movies I just don’t find him believable in, because of his boyish looks. Other films he pulls off with more skill. I don’t really understand why people think he is so accomplished because I don’t see it.
It reminds me of an interview I saw of Lauren Bacall. This would have been about ten years ago or more. She said that there are only a handful of male actors that are of the quality of Humphrey Bogart in America. At first I didn’t believe her when she said that. I thought of all of the actors that I thought were good. And then upon reflecting more I realized that she was right.
She only named two accomplished male actors... DeNiro and Pacino.
The Aviator and J. Edgar are astonishingly good (when viewed in terms of what Modern Hollywood puts out and I am talking the Big Budget stuff where its all fluff and effects) DiCaprio really nailed Hughes and Hoover in those movies.
I think the problem was at the time DiCaprio had the body of a ten year old girl. He just didn't fit the part of a leading man in a Love Story.
You’re right about the casting. He doesn’t come off as a leading man in that movie.
I’ll remember to look for him in the Aviator, though. That sounds like it would be a good one. Thank you.
I thought the plot was sophomoric. Also, another movie where the heroin from the past acts just like a 90's girl. Other than seeing the people struggle and many end up frozen and dead the movie's acting and plot left me cold.
