The movie based on the conspiracy-terrorism-action show was in pre-production and set to start shooting next month, but has now ground to a halt because Fox will greenlight a budget no higher than $30 million, while Sutherland and producer Brian Grazer feel the budget needs to be in the low $40s at its tightest.
A Fox spokesman confirmed that the movie was on hold, and said it was related to timing.

I enjoyed the “24” series tremendously and was sorry to see it end. As far as a movie, I don’t think it could have cramned in the same 24 hour intensity in an hour and a half.........

FOX is a bunch of dopes. You are telling me a 24 movie won’t be able to break the $40 Million dollar mark in the first week?

Why did Fox do this? The liberals hated it because it showed the terrorist in their true light. It was a big pro-republican show. I was hoping it would be back. It was my favorite show.

Crap. I never saw 24 on it’s first run. I started watching it a couple of months ago on Netflix. From the very beginning. Every night I would take my iPhone to bed and watch it under the covers. I am going through withdrawal now and was looking forward to the movie. :(

Fox is leery about letting too much time lapse between the end of 24 and the release of the film in theaters, based on its experience with The X-Files.The first X-Files movie debuted in theaters in 1998, while the hit television show was still on the air. X-Files grossed a handy $189.2 million worldwide. The second film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, was released in 2008, six years after the show's final episode.
I Want to Believe fared poorly, grossing only $63.4 million worldwide, including a paltry $21 million domestically (Fox spent far less to make the second movie).
In addition, while Sutherland is considered an A-list television star, he hasn't starred in a hit film since the 1990s. And 24, while a big hit for Fox, had lost some of its audience by the time the drama finished its eight-season run.
Are they a bunch of dopes, or a cadre of cowards, bending over and grabbing the ankles in order to not produce anything that might offend ragheads.....and the immam in chief in the White Hut?
It’s not just getting 40 million bucks, you have to assume the budget will be blown by at least 50%, so now you’re at 60 million, then you generally want to spend at least 50% of the budget (approved) on advertising, so now you’re at 80 million, and distributors and the theaters still get a cut so you generally need to double the out to break even. So you want to make 160 million bucks with a show that lost 25% of its ratings in its last year on the air, which was 2 years ago, and if they’re still arguing budget the movie is at least 2 years away. I’m sure the middling fate of the second X-Files movie made them a bit gun shy.
Another article I read says Fox is blaiming it on a “timing” issue. Keifer only has 7 weeks off from “Touch” before it starts up again.

Dang it. I hadn’t heard this. I think Kiefer has every reason to be pissed off. After all the money he made the network and this is how they treat him. Try other companies, I can’t imagine another company not wanting to pick it up immediately.
They will work it out. Notice the phrase it is “on hold” instead of a dead deal.
We already know Fox News is in the tank for Romney. Is Fox and Fox News one in the same, both owned by Murdock? Whatever the answer is it looks like they are doing what Hollywood wants. Sad.
