California Freepers (Vanity)

Sigh...to make a long story short, my wife has decided that she's getting out of Texas, with or without me.

She's listed California, Oregon and Washington as possible places where she'd like to relocate. Well, I'm allergic to the cold, so that leaves California.

Any input on possible locations in California where she can "Escape the redneck mentality" and I can still live around semi-sane individuals?

Dude, gay men walk around naked and copulate in public in San Fransicko.

The rest of Kalipornia is not much better.

BTW, I hope you don’t need a job if you go there.

I’ve heard Temecula and Murietta are nice. Any opinion?

Take a hard look at the tax situation in Cali.

A very hard look.

You could go to Coronado but risk getting shot by some crazed Navy pilot or submariner.

Yeah, she’s pretty much limited it to three states. None of them in the South. She even has #1 daughter on board, who’s going to follow her mom with the grandkids. I’m stuck with this.

“Aw, I knew it wouldn’t be long before that comment would appear. I am back to the wall and heavily outnumbered here. Think Thermopylae.”

You aren’t alone. There’s more of us here than some people realize. We just fight sneakier...

Forget Californicka.

I moved from Illinois to Colorado over two years ago and love it.

Low taxes. Yeah, Denver and Boulder counties are lib lands but Weld County is wide open and conservative. South of Denver is Colorado Springs, USAF Acadamy etc.

Weather is great, snow mostly in the mountains.

I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, left in 94. As a matter of fact, we were married there.

A couple of decades ago I lived in the Santa Ynez Valley, in the mountains above Santa Barbara. Yes, Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch is/was located there, but most of the towns in this valley, at least when I lived there, were VERY conservative. Santa Barbara and Goleta are nearby....Goleta has all the big box stores, such as Costco, Sam’s Club, etc. etc. Nice weather in the Santa Ynez Valley, and lots of vineyards. I lived in Solvang.....a slice of Denmark in small town California.

Texas, as you know, has no state income tax. California has a high income tax and will most likely go even higher in the near future. From what I heard, Santa Barbara has a large TEA Party contingent, in spite of being a rather liberal city.

Now I do dig the architecture in Santa Barbara. I love that Spanish style with the clay tiled roofs

Placer County, just outside Sacramento is heavily republican, has low crime and thanks to the market crash, very affordable housing. HP and Intel are close by if you are a high tech guy.

Cheers,

Go for the Tahoe area. You have your share of Pacific Northwest-style vistas, and you’ll find the Reno / Tahoe area more conservative than most. BONUS: if you live on the Nevada side, there is no state income tax.

Oceanside is nice. Big military presence with Pendleton right next door. Great weather.

my wife has decided that she's getting out of Texas, with or without me. She's listed California

Our good friends left CA and went to Ohio where they could buy 36 acres cheap....3 years later? They are in the process of selling and coming back to CA. They found out frigged temps, snow, ice, mud, and hot sweltering humid summers, ticks, flies and bugs were just not for them. They said the people were nice enough, but felt like they were on the set of Heehaw.

Try CA high deserts, the coastal plain if you can afford it, or even northern CA, near Redding etc.

BTW, I wouldn't live in Texas if ya paid me to. Been there done that. The dripping heat and humidity of the summers was just plain brutal. Life is too short for that.

Good luck!
