San Antonio, TX
When I woke up this morning to a slew of emails, I had the sinking thought, "it is going to be one of those days".
One of the days where there are multiple requests to feature dogs in need - multiple dogs who desperately need a chance.
How does one pick and choose a certain dog to feature? Trust me, it isn't easy.
But this one photo of a young, uniquely colored German shepherd a the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services facility touched my heart.
This dog is so frightened that he cannot stand.
He is so frightened that he cannot look at the camera.
This one, sad photo is all that he has to help him get out of the facility alive.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely no information provided for his profile. Nothing to indicate if he was a surrender or a stray.
Nothing that states "Loves to play ball" or "longs for affection".
All that we can see is fear.
He is still a puppy - life should be full of fun and new experiences right now. He should not be behind bars waiting to die.
He looks as if he could use a calm, reassuring person who has a soft voice and gentle hand.

In all the years that I’ve been here on a daily basis, I’ve never seen you write one single thing that was positive or helpful. Frankly, that’s a pretty pathetic way to live your life, no matter what social, physical, or mental problems you may have. You can get help and get your mind well instead of being angry at the world.
I guess you should try to pay more attention.
Was that helpful?
Bless you. I’d like an update as well. Thank you.
That dog takes my breath away !!!!!
Bought a place in the country for Mason to live out his retirement.

Bless you.
Poor puppy. I hope someone adopts him.
GERMAN SHEPHERD PING LIST
This is a low-volume list so dont worry!
(Please Freep-mail me if youd like to be on or off the list.)
From the bottom of my pet-loving soul, I say ‘Thank You’. This simple act of kindness strengthens my belief that there are more good people in the world than evil ones. May the blessings of your act of mercy be returned a hundredfold upon your house.
humblegunner is a great guy and he loves animals.
He just hates people who pimp blogs especially virus infested MySpace pages like the Examiner.
He does a great job weeding out blog pimps and many of us appreciate it and understand that we don’t pick and choose the threads he can post on and neither do you.
Left a second message with them. Think I will stop off after work tomorrow. Hopefully a good family already adopted him.
God bless you. I was reading the thread and saying to myself that I’d contact them to adopt him. You beat me to the punch.
True Story!!!
You are only mean to blog pimpers. To animals, yer just an ol' softy.
I'd take him myself if he was in CA.
I’m with you. It’s gotten old...
Very sad photo and story, hope there is a GS (or any) rescue in the SA area that can save him if he is not adopted.
I did three weekend foster for a GS in a similar situation last year. He was so frightened he would not eat and had to be carried out to the vehicle from the shelter. When I got him from the rescue’s kennel he hid in a corner so I slept in the room with him. By the next day he was so calm he was following the other dogs around and wagging his tail. Also found out he was housebroken.
Say this out loud repeatedly, please...

What a nice person you are! I like hearing happy endings like that!!
heartbreaking blurry monitor alert.
From article:
UPDATE — Joe Gimont and his wife are going to be adopting Austin. Joe’s wife is driving to San Antonio tomorrow from the Austin area (must be fate for a dog named Austin to live in Austin). If something happens and they cannot make it down tomorrow then they will contact me directly and I will go pull Austin from the shelter.... Bottom line.. Austin is getting out. I will update tomorrow when I hear from Joe or his wife so that everyone knows that Austin is free and safe.
That’s great. But where did I upset the apple cart? Certainly not my “cute” picture response... He called in reinforcements for that?? Oh, my...
If you see a boy, hit him with your purse.
Oh my, sorry I didn’t realize you’re a liberal.
Those words seem to flow for you. Gunner repeating them would ring hollow as you own them.
Nope.
Oh my, you disagreed with someone else’s post but rather than address the post you make a false statement about the person.
Sounds like a liberal to me.
Yep, glad to hear it. Sorry I was not able to adopt Austin, but glad to know he is going to a loving home. BTW, I got a nice email from the shelter telling me Austin had been adopted.
Nope
That’s wonderful news! Thank you so much for the update!
Pleased to see that the puppy has found a home.
Oh my, one of those severe conservatives like Romney.
Got it.
Hey, Chett99...Another sick post from you.
You need some serious phsyco help...the sooner the better.
P.S.
I admit you did good this time since the puppy was adoped.
I do believe many of you posts are sick never the less.
Wonderful news! I wonder if his new owners are Freepers. If so, I hope they update us on how he is doing.
Well... There is good news and bad news regarding Austin.
I went to the ACS today to inquire about adopting Austin.
The first is the good news. Austin was adopted yesterday. The bad news, It wasn’t me who adopted him.
However I did see a 2 year old golden Lab/Retriever mix that I want and will now have to spend the rest of the day convincing my wife that our Golden needs a pal.
No, severely.
Just imagine if I had actually tried to offend someone!
Very strange thread in certain respects. Hope the dog hasn’t noticed.
You are a good man, EQAB, so I fairly certain you married a good woman ; ) Best wishes on getting that 2nd Golden home safe and sound.
May God bless and keep you all.
Tatt
Looking at your posting history, you and bubblegummer should get a room.
Don’t cry ‘lil fella.
You ought to be used to making a fool out of yourself by now.
Gunner, one of your little fan-boys is jealous.
Meh....(simpleton)
Geez, don’t be so hard on yourself.
No effort needed...or given. But bless your concern.
Good luck!
Yer playing with fire, IP.
Fire can be fascinating.
Think you made a really poor judgement call on this one.
But when I see someone comin' after you and Eaks, I generally will stand up for ya first, THEN find out if you are right or wrong. Several freepers I do that with.
Note please that no contact info is provided unless one clicks the blog.
That sort of defines the intent.
Just my opinion.
Subject matter, my man, subject matter. If someone wanted to come in and kill blog-pimp police, this would certainly be the way to give the group a bad name.
The way to handle ones like these are to simply pull the info off the blog and POST IT RIGHT HERE, so as to A) Thwart their (possible) intent of driving traffic there, B) Look MORE caring then the poster, and C) Not be fooled into giving yourself a black eye.
Play chess, brotherman — NOT checkers.
