Santorum Another Trifecta in OK,TN, and ND. Ohio Too Close To Call {Should Gingrich Withdraw?]
March 06, 2012

Posted on 03/06/2012 7:21:08 PM PST by Steelfish

Gingrich must steps aside. His “southern strategy” is up in flames placing distant third and fourth in key states.

Working Women. This is a key demographic that Romney leads Santorum followed by a deficit of 11 points, and Gingrich is well way behind by 31 points and is one major reason why Gingrich can neither win the nomination nor the presidency.

Gingrich was the big spoiler in MI where Santorum lost by just three points. Besides the notion of “permanent moon-based colonies” and pie-in-the-sky $2.50 gas/gallon regardless of world energy markets or geopolitical conditions is simply risible and won’t play well with voters. Note, that Gingrich couldn’t even get the 50% threshold in home-state GA whereas Romney got a whopping 72% in MA.

If Santorum loses OH, we can attribute this to a divided conservative vote. The big city areas in OH have not yet been counted. Karl Rove thinks that when these county results come in, Romney will have won OH. He (unfortunately) may just be right.

Santorum has won IA; MN; CO; MO; and ND. Today, Santroum has notched up another trifecta: OK, TN, and ND. He came within a whisker of beating Romney in MI, and while he may lose OH it will be only by a coupe of points and Gingrich’s 15% would a major factor that explains this fact.

GO SANTORUM GO!

Bring back the Reagan Democrats and net those Rust-Belt states in the Republican column. The ONLY candidate who never favored at any time an individual mandate.

Absolutely he should withdraw. He’s not even close anywhere. he can’t win anything except GA. And all he is doing is handing the nomination to Romney.

Gingrich’s legacy is singular ... getting Romney nominated. Gingrich was flat out slaughtered tonight.

Santorum.

Has Romney won any states that McCain Carried in 2008?

For Newt, it’s all about ego at this point. Well, if being remembered as the guy that gave us Romney boosts your ego, then go for it.

Should you keep your comment to this space instead of abusing the headline?

I’m getting mighty sick of this. NO!
santorum rose BECAUSE of romney attacks on Newt and that is the ONLY reason he rose. He piled on and kicked Newt when he was down.

I think Gingrich ought to withdraw. I said last year that he and Santorum should should stick through Super Tuesday, and whomever’s losing should drop out.

At this point, I don’t see any way Newt can win. He’s helping Romney by taking votes away from Rick. The conservative vote cannot win if its split.

I agree. Newt is toast. He may be better served to try running for elected office in Georgia. This country needs all the leadership it can get right now.

I guess you said the same thing about going to the moon in 1969 - why do it? Not possible. If a person doesn't have goals or dreams, what is he? Someone who relies on the government to tell them what to do.

For $2.50 gas, why not? It was lower then that when Obama became president. It's all supply and demand, something that most understand.

Newt needs to stay in and he will inspire all of us. Go Newt !!

Absolutely correct. He spoke to a “southern strategy” and he couldn’t get the 50% threshold in his own home state and places 3rd and 4th in other states. He gave Romney his squeaker of a victory of 3 points in MI, and he seems all set to play the role of spoiler again in OH by snatching a paltry 15% of the vote.

Why should Newt drop out? He seems to be disappearing as a factor in this race anymore. 10 states tonight and all he got was his home state which we all saw coming from a mile away.

I won’t vote for Santo. Ever. Romney is more fiscally Conservative than he is, for goodness sakes. I’m still reeling that the fool ever thought he was enough of a statesman to be POTUS.

We don’t need another idiot. We may as well keep the one we have and do clean up in 2016.

Much as I think Newt is the smartest of the lot and the most able to articulate consrvatives principles, he seems to be having more trouble than the others are having in convincing people to vote for him in large numbers.

So, I dunno what to say other than SIGH.

Gingrich couldn’t cut the 50% in his home state where he and his super-pac spent a ton of money. He’s now aiding and abetting a Romney victory.

In MI, Gingrich pulled 7% of the vote and gave Romney a 3% squeaker. Now in OH he’s pulling a miserable 15% of the vote and again we’ll have a Romney victory in a major bellweather state.
