This is a bad, selfish use of FR bandwidth and I will admit that up front.
However, I've searched the internet high and wide for a solution, to no avail.
If you have DISH NETWORK, you might see a screen with the floating DISH logo and the words "press SELECT to continue."
I cannot press SELECT, however, due to the fact that the dog chewed up the remote (5-7 days for a new remote to arrive).
Is there anyway I can watch TV in the meantime?
I looked on the DISH receiver itself for a SELECT button, but there is no such button.
I also rebooted the DISH receiver, but I continue to be re-routed to the screen with the floating logo.
Any tips most appreciated. Thanks very much.
You might look for a universal remote that’s pre-programmed w/ Dish codes.
We got rid of all TV inputs 4 years ago and haven’t had any problems since, plus, blood pressure readings have fallen precipitously. (Don’t support the enemy)
Go to Best Buy and get a Logitech Harmony remote and program it.
on mine there is a button on the actual dish tuner you can push and do most everything wihtout the remote.
Thanks for reply but I should have mentioned in the original post that I'm looking for a $20 and under solution. :O)
Is it located on the right-side of your receiver? How old is your receiver? Mine is from 2004 or so.
What do you call a reboot? If you haven’t unplugged it for a short time and plugged it back in, try that.
just to follow up, on the right side of the tuner there is a panel that opens when you push on it, inside is a complete set of controls like the remote.
the panel is kind of hidden, doesnt look like it will open but it does.
What receiver you got?
as you face the tuner its on the right of the front. on mine its the same panel that has the power light. but on any model there has to be some manual control panel.
Thanks for the reply, John. I should have mentioned I tried that already. Unplugged from wall for 10 minutes then re-plugged in. Still took me back to the "Press SELECT to continue" floating logo.
I'm not at home right now, so I'm not sure exactly what receiver. But it's older. Like 2004 or 2005.
Yeah, I’m not at home right now, but I remember there is something that looks like a door on the front right of the receiver, but I couldn’t get it to open. Maybe cuz it’s an old unit and never been opened before I’ll have to pry it open with something. I bet you are correct and that it’s on the front right and not on the side. Thanks again.
All dish receivers have manuel controls on it somewhere, look it over.
All dish receivers have manuel controls on it somewhere, look it over.If all else fails point the dog that ate the remote and press right paw for up and left paw down. Goose him in the but to power on!
When I had Dish my recievers would change the channels by themselves. One day my recievers watched five pay per view movies and Dish would not refund me the money. I had to change services.
Are you logged in?
I bet you lived in an apartment at the time and your receiver was baing changed by a neighbors remote. You should have asked for a supervisor to get the chrges dropped, the people answering the phone don’t have that authority, you gotta go up the ladder!

Once I open the panel, is it self-explanatory how to get the TV from the floating logo, to the point where channels will display? For instance, is there a SELECT button inside the panel itself? Thanks very much for your replies.
Yup, it was designed especialy for those that post vanities on how to make it work, JR even get a royalty for that device.
I live in a house and the closest neighbor with Dish was 200 ft away. I tried going up the chain of command but in the end I started to despise Dish so I switched back to Direct TV.
Why in the world don't you just call DISH and ask them your questions?
Amazon will deliver a remote on Monday: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SRP4004-27-Universal-Fluorescent/dp/B003DNS88C. ($9.19 + $3.99 shipping if you have Amazon Prime).
On the dual receivers, the remotes are UHF not IR for TV 2 so it’s very possible it was the neighbors remote. Yea, the lower echelon people can be quite rude at times.
ROTFL.
Call DISH technical support and ask them..
Actually, your post reminds me of the freeper last thanksgiving who posted a vanity about a plstic digital thermometer that melted because he put in a turkey and left it in the bird while in the oven, he was complaining that the direction never told him not to put it in the oven!
I was on hold for an hour and gave up.
Is this a test? $20 and under??
I’ve been using the same Harmony One for years. You can control your TV / AVR / XBox / PS3 / Blue-Ray almost any IR device at all.
Time to think out of the box. You won’t look back.
Sure: Go to bar or restaurant and order water, Visit department store and pretend to be buying, Call up an old friend and invite yourself, try Hulu for free intro use, borrow remote from neighbor, adjust to channel and then return, trade dog for remote on ebay
CALL DISH NETWORK
They will help you, for now, and
They will actually send you a new remote.
Shoot the dog. It’ll chew up the new remote too.
Go to your local Dish installer(s). (call first)
Most, if not all, have replacement remotes in stock.
Do NOT pry it open! PUSH & RELEASE on the left edge of it, and it should pop open.
I once had some crappy samuel jackson movie billed to me on Direct TV. It took a while, but I finally got them to take it off. And there isn’t another house within five hundred yards or so. They really grilled me, like I was trying to rip them off for “Lakeview Terrace.” Yeesh.

When I had Dish my recievers would change the channels by themselves.

NEGATIVE , you had a receiver with a UHF remote that was being changed by another nearby Dish customer who also had a UHF remote ... The cust serv rep should have reversed the charges and instructed you on how to change the “address” of the remote ,, there are 15 possible addresses to avoid the problem you encountered.
Sometimes its a "Ramon" control...
“I had to change services.”
Dish is really THE WORST. The service itself is OK, but the whole billing/support stuff is awful.
I have Dish. Select is the same as power on. Try just turning your tuner on. Good luck.
What receiver you got? Geez! Is that ebonics?
How about, "What receiver do you have"?
“trade dog for remote on ebay”
LOL!!!!
