Warner Bros has closed deals with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to do another installment of I Am Legend, the 2007 hit film. The intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on Earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population. A deal was made with Arash Amel to write the script. The film is not being called a prequel, which had been rumored for the past few years. But clearly Warner Bros sees more room to roam on a film that grossed $584 million worldwide. The original film is based on the novel by Richard Matheson.

We've already got them.
They're called OWS...
I haven’t seen this movie, but it sounds exactly like Charlton Heston’s “Omega Man.” Is there any connection?
I took a lady who didn’t like horror flicks to the first one. Thought is was a fantasy movie, not horror. I wonder what happened to her?
Wasn’t Robert Neville killed at the end of “I Am Legend”?
I’ve been told the book is different than the movie and much better. Can’t say for certain. The movie was enjoyable but nothing special.
Only a 100% connection. I Am Legend is the remake.
Yes, they're both based on the book "I Am Legend" by Richard Matherson. Will Smith's film is actually the third adaptation of the novel, the first was a black & white film called "The Last Man on Earth", starring Vincent Price as Nevile. The Will Smith film borrows heavily from the Heston film, except the mutants is the Heston film are still intelligent people you can converse with, instead of mindless screeching CGI monsters. The Heston film was much better than the remake, IMO. But even by using the word "remake", I'm sure someone on here will object and claim it's not a remake.
I thought the movie was much better. The book started out good and got worse and worse and the ending really sucked.
lol.
Hi character was suppoed to be dead, right? Even though it happened “off screen”.
I thought ‘I Am Legend’ sucked because the zombies/mutants could climb up walls at super speed. How the hell do they do that? What kind of disease/mutation lets you do that? Its just kopy kat effects from dozens of other horror/vampire movies. Leave the stupid effects behind and teach screenwriters how to tell a story.
Yep, just a modern version.
I'd really like to see a real life super hero do battle with that mutated mob in DC, especially those in the imperial palace known as the whitey hut and dining on wagyu steak!
Agreed, I didn’t care for the movie much, the characters didn’t make me care for them, and the movie seems to be pointless.
Yes. So in typical Hollywood fashion, he’ll be resurrected. Not sure how they’ll do that as he blows himself (and quite a few zombies) up with a grenade.
I know Will Smith died.
I really should read the other replies before posting.

Its a remake of “Omega Man” and its FANTASTIC! Probably my favorite movie of that year. It has many God references and the final shot is of a church and an American flag. Rent it or buy it, you won’t regret it.
Will Smith needs special effects - lots of them. Without special effects, his movies usually bomb...he can’t act.
I hated the ending of “I am Legend”. If it is a prequil, I won’t watch it, but if they have it so that he somehow survived the explosion, then I am game.
All you can say is, "Zombies wouldn't do that"? Weird.
I LOVED this movie.
Yeah I was a little put off at the super-speed zombie calorie monsters who only ate uninfected people yet lived for years.
.....”Without special effects, his movies usually bomb...he cant act.”
Au contraire, his work in “Six degrees of Separation” is magnificent, with no effects.
Who cares what happened to her? Any woman who couldn’t appreciate the story of a military hero who worships the memory of his wife and saves the human race, isn’t worth a box of chocolates and a six-pack.
I am Legend was really good when it was all about Will Smith’s character, his isolation, the friendship with him and his dog, the mutants. Then this French woman shows up with her kid and it all goes to hell.
It’s a remake of Omega Man with some updates. It’s the same story, basically, from end to end.

In fact, the two movies have more in common than Tom Clancy’s book “Sum of all Fears” has with the movie of the same name that was based on the book.
IOW, Hollywierd is out of ideas and imagination, so they keep re-hashing the same things, over and over and over and over and . . . . . .
Legend was the re-make.
How can that be? He's dead. How would you write that into a new movie?

That's the fact, Jack! I mean Debs.
Well, now that more than a few posts have spoiled the ending, it’s safe to say that there is a much better alternate ending where Neville does survive.
I thought the movie was a great stand-alone flick next to the other adaptations and book.
Sure, the bad guys are CGI and wicked fast, but the story is less about the creature and more about Neville’s fight to stay sane against what seems to him to be a hopeless fight. There is also a deeply spiritual theme in finding God when there seems to be no evidence of his working hand.
I enjoyed the flick then and still watch both versions to this day. There will always be haters....that’s life.

I think there are actually 4 versions. The SyFy channel, back when it was Sci-Fi did a two evening mini-series on it staring Marc Dacascos called "I Am Omega".
Oooops, I doubled checked, looks like it was a straight to video thing.
Will Smith is an A-lister and therefore...indestructible. Just shoot an additional scene showing him slipping out of the room behind the woman and her son, but knocked unconscious or show him being blown free or being miraculously shielded from the explosion by his metal desk. Harrison Ford was shielded from an atom bomb inside a refrigerator.
Piece a cake.
It was mine too. Generally I don't watch a move more than once but since I have a copy of this one, I've watched it several times.........I sure wish the dog would have lived tho

Wow. I knew you would know how. Screen writers are simply amazing ....
But, nevermind all that, this is a “prequel” so it will take place before the “I Am Legend” story.
This is a “prequel”.

OMG! The dog! Heartbreak. Pain. Sorrow. Fortunately, the dog-actor walked the red carpet at the premiere, so I could then watch the movie 20 more times without sobbing like a three-year old.
I like to take a Saturday afternoon and bang through all three. The all have their strengths and weaknesses. Smith probably did the best job in the lonely and depressed part. The Omega Man mutants were the most entertaining. Vincent Price had the best ending meltdown.
lol. Will he look younger?
Men in Black: $587,790,539.00 in worldwide sales
Men in Black II: $441,767,803.00 in worldwide sales
Total gross sales: $1,029,558,342.00
As for I Am Legend, it grossed over $585 million dollars in 2007 and has now sold over 7 million DVD's, hardly an indication that his movies are bombs.....
Black don’t crack.
Try to contain your excitement.
There is an alternate ending in which Neville survives. I have the blu-ray with that ending in my collection. The ending of the movie lends itself to a sequel.
