Palin says Santorum is not a ‘threat’ to Romney
The Blaze ^ | 2-11-12 | Santerelli

Posted on 02/12/2012 2:35:54 PM PST by VinL

Former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin stole the show at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference where she delivered the event’s keynote speech Saturday. After slamming the President, shutting up some protesters, and saying that the drawn out Republican primary promotes competition and a better nominee, the former Alaska governor took a few questions as she headed for the door following the rousing remarks. When asked by Anneke Green of the Washington Times if she thought a surging Sen. Santorum was a threat to front-runner Mitt Romney; “Palin answered that she wouldn‘t consider him a threat but was still ’a good competitor.’”

Green writes that Palin praised the remaining Republican presidential candidates’ willingness to compete and appreciated their efforts as “warriors in the arena.”

While still not offering up an endorsement, Palin has spoken fondly about former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who she said she would have voted for in the South Carolina Republican primary.

Wow. There is some ugliness on this site lately.

I've been reading Free Republic for many years but just recently signed up. I get the feeling remarks are not welcome if they are anti-Gingrich. While I would vote for him, most conservative women I know would not. It's Jim's site and he calls the shots. But I really don't think Gingrich is going to be president.

I agree...they really stopped reporting on the Gingrich campaign stops here in Florida when he started drawing thousands, while Romney and his “surrogates” were lucky if they could collect a couple of hundred somewhat tepid audience members.

But out of sight, out of mind. What Gingrich is really good at is articulating ideas (not to mention coming up with them in the first place), so if the media simply ignores him and people never get to hear his ideas, that’s all it takes.

Rick openly adopts the “Richie Cunningham” persona...

Here's a brief detour down the lighter side for this post. I was recently tracking down some YouTube music videos from my college days. I came across Billy J. Kramer's 1965 appearance on Top of the Pops with a Rick Santorum look (absent the vest, of course).

I also stumbled across Creeque Alley from that same era. I was struck by Denny Doherty who really had the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad look going way back then.

Now back to the more serial bidness of this thread...

Newt lost Florida ... "but" as a Florida resident ... "Florida is not the South" ...

The East Coast is like New Jersey, because the bulk of retirees are New Yawk based ...

Miami is ... well, Miami ...

The West Coast is more conservative (just barely) than the East Coast, because the bulk of retirees are Midwest based ...

Most Republicans who voted in Florida are "retired" ...

What's that mean ?

ABC-NBC-CBS-NPR-CNN run 24/7 on their "boob-tubes" ...

Even Rush Limbaugh said that Florida's results didn't matter because Willard ran 65,000 TV Ads to Newt's 200 ...

And Romney's "legendary" ground-game in Florida ?

I only saw "one" Romney bumper sticker in 8 weeks before the primary ... and my travels take me everywhere in the Tampa-St-Pete-Clearwater metroplex ...

Yep. We don’t need a Ritchie Cunningham at this point.

What this country needs right now is someone who is going to have blood and entrails dripping off his desk from all the gutting of the socialist system that’s in place right now.

And I’m just talking about day one!

It depends on what you mean by “anti-”.

Facts are always welcome. There exists a huge amount of information on Newt Gingrich. His record and past have been argued ad nauseum on this site.

Rick Santorum...not so much.

I started doing research on Rick Santorum about three weeks ago and whenever I present information, I get flamed as being a Romney supporter.

Voters, in order to make an informed decision, must have as much knowledge about the candidates as possible. I did this last time, in 2008, and was flamed for trying to inform folks about Obama.

That sure turned out swell, didn’t it. /sarcasm

If Sarah were a risk taker, she would have run herself. If she wanted the pressure, she could have run herself. If she wanted to take on more of all that, she would have run herself. Expecting more from her than being beautiful and speaking what we each already speak is too much, given the path she chose instead. Thankfully, she doesn’t look like Barbara Mukulsky, so we listen, and Sarah draws seven figures because we do.

Some of the pettiest, most off putting behavior, was Newt’s response after Florida.

B.S. Please provide links and documented proof of what you assert. Newt had a right to be angry at the lying smears about him. Mitt had outright lies aired all over Florida.

If you can, please provide one example of Newt being petty.

That’s something I mentioned on a different political forum I frequent and got pretty hardcore flamed for it. Indeed, she is only speaking what we already speak. It’s safe, easy, not dangerous. Of course we eat it up. She’s not offering anything really profound here. She’s not leaping out and taking the hits. She’s not jumping into a fist fight and getting bloodied up here. She has her own safe haven amongst the conservative media, and the libs will always give her a platform. I can appreciate her not willing to endorse a candidate, but she isn’t really saying anything noteworthy. She goes to a certain point, and then just pulls back. She softens her blows, including “all 4 candidates” in with her criticisms. She blasts one, but then pulls back, embraces another, but then pulls back. You sit there waiting for her to drop the hammer, but then she doesn’t so we sit here speculating on what she really meant or who she really supports.

She’s lukewarm in this race, plain and simple. And that is certainly her right to not get involved in this way. But lets not fool ourselves for what it really is: Commentary, not leadership.

I don’t buy the whole “She doesn’t want to endorse lest her bad mojo manufactured by the media will latch on to whoever she endorsed”. Fact of the matter is, the media is already going after conservatives the way they went after her. It couldn’t possibly get any worse.

VinL, I am thankful for what Newt accomplished as Speaker of the House. He is the absolute best candidate we have had running for president since Reagan. Would bet that Sarah feels the same way.

As for me...I will fight for Newt until the very end. IF Newt loses the gop nomination...I am done with politics. Has America been so dumbed down that they are willing to sacrifice this nation to Obama or Romney? it will be the end of the country I love so much.

Newt's campaign has all but collapsed. It is sad to see so many here in denial, instead of contacting him to construct a new, winning message, and coherent strategy to victory. Until last weekend, that strategy was "ride Adelson's wallet to Super Tuesday". With Shelly now on the sidelines, that is no longer viable, and he is near broke. Santorum beat Newt by 10% in Maine without a single appearance there. I don't know what Sarah sees that I do not.

There’s a misleading headline based on a misinterpretation of a word. Sarah doesn’t think Santorum is a “threat” to Romney, he’s a competitor. She rejected the word “threat”, because it denotes combat, and she’s said she doesn’t think our candidates should be tearing each other down.

She may have sounded too nice about Romney for many, but beyond that, we now know she is allowed to endorse, and won’t, that she thinks all our candidates are good, whatever that means, and that none of them have laid out a good plan yet, so she wants the competition to continue until they do.

I continue to be amazed at the number of good people here on FR who insist on a candidate being “endorsed” before they will agree to vote for him or her.

Conservatives are smarter than liberals, an endorsement isn’t necessary for all of us to realize who has earned our vote.

Part of the reason Rick Santorum is ‘hated’ is due to his endorsement of Specter over Toomey in a primary election. Don’t mention to those people that there seems to be a bit of disappointment in Senator Toomey at this point, but it’s all about the endorsement. I won’t even go into the Supreme Court consequences at that time. It’s never made sense to me.

We’re all intelligent enough to figure out who to vote for.

Will the real Rick Santorum please stand UP! Santorum is NO friend of the fiscal conservatives and played a role in getting this nations economy into the mess it is in today.

Wait until the facts and truth come out on Rick...his poll numbers will go down so fast it will make his head spin! there will be no more free passes for the prententious, pious Rick. His chance of winning the presidency are the equivalent of my chances of winning the power ball lottery. The flavor of the month is going sour and soon.

Santorum bragged in 2006 that he had steered millions of dollars in earmarks to clients of American Continental Group, a lobbying firm. They gave him $14,000 that year in donations, and after he left office paid him $65,000 for “legislative policy consulting services.” Another firm he helped, Consol Energy, paid him $142,500 just in 2010 and 2011.

Earmarks

Santorum passed out over a BILLION dollars in earmarks — chunks of money directed to one specific recipient — according to Taxpayers for Common Sense. He even voted for the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere” in Alaska. In one bill alone — the 2006 Defense appropriations bill — he personally inserted 54 earmarks that delivered $154 million of your tax money to special interests. And hey, guess what? Those special interests donated over $200,000 to his campaigns just that year.
Rick Perry spoke about Santorum’s earmarks but it was ignored because Rick presented no real threat at the time. It is going to hit the fan now! as it should.

Rick Santorum voted with extreme liberal Barbara Boxer to restrict your 2nd Amendment Rights (gun lock requirement):

Senators Proposwe Redundant Media Research Study

washington, D.C.) - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today criticized Senators Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), and RICK SANTORUM (R-Pa.) for reintroducing the Children and Media Research Advancement Act (CAMRA), which will set up a $90 million program to research what countless other studies have already documented the effects of television viewing and other media on children. CAGW named Sen. Lieberman Porker of the Month when he introduced the same legislation in August, 2004.

Santorum tossing hard earned taxpayer money to the wind!

OK. There's a lot of hemming and hawing about the candidates.

1. Ron Paul — he should be put in charge of the Federal Reserve — but he's not ready for prime time in the Oval Office. As POTUS nominee, he might keep the House in GOP hands, but Senate is not likely. Dead meat against Zer0’s Chicago thug machine.

2. Mittens “Myth” Romney — Obama-lite, but without the charm. Could replace “Plugs” Biden as Obama’s VP running mate and would swoon if asked by Dear Leader. As POTUS nominee, he will lose both the House and Senate. Dead meat against Zer0’s Chicago thug machine.

3. Rick Santorum — Romney-lite but without the former’s money and wardrobe. More boring than Mittens. [Will he survive when the Romney attack machine employs scorched earth ads on him?] As POTUS nominee, he might let the GOP keep the House; forget the Senate. Dead meat against Zer0’s Chicago thug machine.

4. Newt Gingrich — a man with concrete ideas and unflagging determination. Hated by Mitt, the Donkeys, the RINOs in the GOP, and the MSM. As POTUS nominee, he would give Zer0 the fight of his political life. Would hold and increase GOP seats in House and retake Senate. Only one of candidates who has announced in concrete terms what he intends to do if made nominee and elected; other three candidates blather non-specifics and platitudes.

If the GOP tries the brokered convention route, what will the RINO Establishment try to recruit? [Hint: Another mushy moderate RINO Romney-clone.]

If this is the best they can do, the Geriatric Old Party has: (1) repeatedly demonstrated it is either too stupid or too arrogant to keep its base energized; (2) willfully intends to lose the 2012 election cycle to Zer0 and the Donkeys; (3) RINO stupidity will lose them both the House and Senate because an unmotivated base either votes protest or doesn't vote at all; (4) guarantees the Republican Party will go the way of the Whigs and lead to formation of a third party; (5) lead to Zer0’s reelection and installation of a dictatorship in America (or a CW2). Certainty is the United States will not survive another four years of Dear Leader in the WH.
