LOGAN W.Va. -- It is an instinct for parents to want to protect their children.

But some parents in Logan County say their complaints about bullying against their children have gone unanswered.

The parent of a student at Logan High School and the parent of another student at Man High School both contacted 13 News about their concerns. However they asked to remain anonymous so that their children would not be made more of a target.

"Thursday at school my child's life was threatened," said the parent of a student at Logan High School. She said her son has been harassed for more than 5 years. "He comes home in tears every day because he can't go down the hallway without them trying to fight with him."

The woman said she has followed the chain of command by reporting the problems to several school officials. But she says very little has been done to protect her son.

"I want peace. I want my child to be able to go to school in peace," the Logan County parent said.

The parent of a student at Man High School said her daughter has been bullied since August.

"My child is not safe at school. I don't feel she is safe at school and she doesn't feel she is safe at school," the woman said.

The parent said a gang of girls who call themselves "the Flock" has been targeting her daughter in the halls and online. The mom even pays for an internet service.

I would expect the same level of compassion from the teachers and administrators as I would expect from other government employees: IRS agents, TSA agents, DMV employees etc.

If you choose to send your children to a public school, you must be a liberal.

Loners are easy pickings for bullies. He needs to find some group of kids with a bit of nerve to hang out with.

“If you choose to send your children to a public school, you must be a liberal.”

Or too poor to send them to private school or working too hard to home school.

Does WV has something like ECOT (Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow) in Ohio?

Then it is not a choice, is it?

Make it quite clear to the school administration and the parents of the bullies that the next time it happens the police will be involved.

The schools do this all of the time.
They will not confront bullies or the parents of bullies.
When my now adult daughter was in the 3rd grade, three 6th grade boys decided to beat her up every few weeks as she walked home from school. We went to the school officials and they said they could do nothing because it wasn’t on school property.
We spoke to the parents who each said that they angel would never do this.
We enrolled her (age 8 then) in an evening self defense class for women. After 6 weeks of lessons from a Karate Grand Master she was again attacked by the same three 6th grade boys. The next day we were summoned to the school to explain ourselves because she’d broken the index finger on one boy, knocked out 4 front teeth from the second and broken the nose of the third. She also ripped her jacket.
The school told us we were terrible parents and had no right to teach a child such dangerous skills. My wife’s comment was, “Sue us.”

Sounds like these parents need to teach their kids how to win a fight.

Parents who want to find a way. I’ve known single mothers with several children working low income jobs who homeschool. It is a question of priorities and facing up to the learned educational helplessness a government school habit creates.

Alpapilot is right...government school destroys children. Middle class parents won’t give up their government school habit because education by government is a welfare program they benefit from.

It doesn’t matter even at a private school. We know that firsthand.

My kid was very good at Kadukenbo Kung Fu. He was warned not to use it at school except in case of self defense.

A boy in his 5th grade class had been expelled from the public shcool system and placed in the parochial school my kid attended. The large boy, who had been held back twice, mercilessly picked on my kid.

Finally, my kid had enough and after being assaulted, defended himself. The school principal suspended my kid for defending himself, but not the agressor boy.

We took him out of RC parochial school and home schooled him. No surprise, he has no tolerance for the self-righteous and religous.

Was the jacket ripped too badly? Or did you have to get a new one?

You must be someone who expects other people to pay for their children’s education, i.e. a taker.

Dude, if my Dad had been you he’d have thrown that principal, man or woman through the door without opening it. I mean it. My old man took no sh!t from anybody and he had a special dislike for imperious school officals.
