Should read, “The opposing coach should have pulled his team off the floor.”

Hitting from behind is most often flagrant, and should not be tolerated in youth hockey. Those two defensemen could have backed off or road him around the boards ... not straight in. Their lives are now ruined, as well.

Coaches and refs need to be reeled in. New rules need to be put in place by both the high school leagues and youth associations. Concussion are a weekly event. It is out of control.

(We are close to this situation. It’s an unnecessary tragedy devastating the hockey community.)

I dont know what video you were watching but I sure didnt see any basketball skills displayed by this thug...in fact in all of these clips I would say that ejection or a stern warning would be warranted....but we wont have to fret over it now because a national spotlight will be shined on these clowns....

Don't know if you played bb as did I, but the only dangerous, flagrant, ejectable foul is the undercutting and tripping of the guy going for the layup. He could haved been seriously injured.

Taken as a whole, presuming all the fouls occurred in the same game leads me to believe that something is seriously wrong with the coach and the referees. It should be immediately handled by the league, and the team and or referees ejected from the league if there are ever this many occurrances again.

Basketball is a great game for young people, and can be played relatively safely if properly managed.

Symptoms. The real problem is poor coaching. I’ve recommended that all sports be stopped at my son’s HS. There are good lessons to be learned playing team sports, but the bad lessons are overwhelming the good. High school sports is now all about getting the golden scholarship. Oh, and when a little guy gives a big guy a shot, he’s called “a tough player”. When a big guy gives a little guy a shot, he’s called “a bully”. Every rule in basketball was made to take away the advantage of being tall.

That's why the hit is punishable by a game disqualification. Posting that story about Jablonski inside a thread about thuggish basketball players is an unfair comparison. It has been reported more than once in the Minneapolis papers that the hit that injured Jablonski was not flagrant.

The second hit, which injured Jablonski, did happen to catch the player with his head down. Youth players used to be taught to keep their heads up when they are along the boards to avoid such situations. That is not to assign any of the blame to Jablonski. The hit was from behind, and it was appropriately punished.

Coaches and refs need to be reeled in. New rules need to be put in place by both the high school leagues and youth associations. Concussion are a weekly event. It is out of control.

In the Jablonski case, the referees did what they could do by the rules. They ejected the offending player from the game and most observers understand that what happened to Jablonski was a horrible accident. It is not in the least bit comparable to dirty play such as was seen as the main topic of this thread.

Wrong on all accounts.

You don’t know the story.

I know the story a lot better than you think I do.

There is no comparison between the incidents. None.

At all.
