Of course, Chaz’s body is his to do with what he wants. I respect individualism (isn’t that what conservatism is all about?), so I respect his choice to adopt a masculine identity. It’s distressing that so few here do the same.
It’s telling that when, as female-identity Chastity, she came out to her parents as a lesbian, it was conservative dad Sonny who was tender and accepting, and lefty mom Cher who went batshiite wacko hysteric. Cher has come around by now, and I’m happy for both of them that they’re on good terms. But there’s no doubt: Chaz needs his daddy.
Sonny Bono was one of the good ones. He had a sharp mind, a ready humor and an intuitive grasp of the issues which he could distill convincingly. (Example: when, on a radio show, the host said “Let’s talk about illegal immigration,” Sonny’s answer was one for the ages: “What’s there to talk about? It’s illegal.”) I miss Sonny greatly and wish he were still with us. I’d suggest that anyone who values individualism adopt his example.
Do it for Sonny, folks.
My mother just called to make sure I watched it and I told her that there was no way I was going to add to the number of viewers. They are just using a poor screwed up freak to make advertising money and I will just not support it.
But not for the sake of "individualism" - that would render the term meaningless & enable even more moral corrosion.
Do it because its what Christ urged us to do.
