2012 GOP Ticket: Pawlenty/Barbour. Thoughts?
FReepers Opinions | 4/22/11 | Recovering_Democrat

Looking at the electoral field, I wonder if this would be the strongest ticket from the current field. TP is a 2 term governor from a normally blue Northern state, Haley is a 2 term governor from a red southern state.

They have lots of executive experience, TP has shown he can win in a non-Republican state, and just might be able to put together more than 270 electoral votes....if we can put the keebosh on Hussein's fraud machine.

Pawlenty doesn’t want to drill in ANWR. Or, at least he didn’t when he was governor of Minnesota. ANWR is only 74 miles to the big pipeline that could carry oil to us so we could tell the Saudis to cram theirs.

Better than Obama Biden, but that’s about it.

Barbour more reliably conservative than Tim “what’s his name”

My guess is the Freep Nation will not like this ticket.

I like Pawlenty. I also like Haley Barbour, but don’t think someone like him would be that good for the ticket. I think Barbour would be good in a Cabinet position of a Republican President. Pawlenty is going to need some money and traction, but if he could get the nomination would have a good chance to beat Obama.

IMHO, the RINOs will love Pawlenty and tolerate Barbour.
Neither will get my vote. I recall Pawlenty was the party favorite to run with McCain until McCain pulled a shocker and chose Palin as his VP.

A liberal milquetoast like Pawlenty stands very little chance against Obama.

I hope that ticket won’t happen. Between those two, I prefer Barbour at the top, since he has more political experience, as the RNC chairman. It’s unlikely that the ticket will include two ex-governors. The VP nominee will probably be someone who has been a congressman. Five of the last six republican VP’s were congressmen. Those five were Dick Cheney, Dan Quayle, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon. The exception is Sprio Agnew.

It’s probably a little early to be thinking in terms of the bottom of the ticket. Though for the sake of discussion it would probably be a fairly strong ticket. You’re going to get a lot of flame from those who think neither Pawlenty or Barbour are conservative enough but the fact is either is more likely to be the nominee than some of the more vocally supported candidates oft mentioned here on FR.

Count me out. Pawlenty is McCain light mediocrity, and Barbour is another has-been political hack. The time for politics-as-usual is over. The Republicans need to grow come cajones and someone who is willing to fight.

Not my picks.

That said, I love this country, and I’ll vote for WHOEVER the GOP puts up against Obama.

I sincerely implore all FReepers to accept that there is no perfect candidate and that we must unite to defeat the current regime.

2012 is the most important election of our lifetimes.

We must put personal preferences aside and rise to the occasion.

A blind hog would be a magnitude better than the kenyan marxist. I will speak no evil against any opponent of the enemy of all free people—BO is a sick little rat with a psychotic personality.
