Posted on 11/10/2010 11:39:32 AM PST by Fawn
Between 950 and 1,000 dead pigs were found Monday on a Fulton County farm where they had apparently been abandoned months ago to die of starvation.M
Humane Society Police Officer Dennis Bumbaugh said he has never seen anything like it before. He said the incident may be the largest of its kind in Pennsylvania's history. "I was horrified when I opened the door and saw what I saw," he said during a phone interview Tuesday.
Bumbaugh was on his way to the Union Township farm of Daniel and Kerron Clark to begin counting the carcasses and assessing the evidence. The carcasses were reported to authorities by Kerron Clark on Monday, and Bumbaugh responded to the Harmon Lane property for an initial look at the situation.
That’s certainly thinking outside the box.....
I remember reading those books. It’s been many, many years though, can’t remember anything in them.
Check out the below link:
What medical school and internship then residency did you go to so you think you can diagnose a sociopath based on an fishy story about dead pigs starved to death and then they according to you ate each other..make up your mind what those pigs did...just trying to get your story straight so I know what those pigs did.. If the bank took over the farm, its the banks fault that they died of starvation or ate each other...not the people that were kicked out...
Yeah, those stories always baffle me too. This could be some sort of miscommunication, could be some legal entanglement, could be someone was hired to take care of the livestock and didn’t, could be vidictiveness, could be mental problems. We don’t know. I’m going to certainly withhold judgement.
And I’m sorry, I’m not going to advocate locking someone up and starving them to death even if they DID do it.
For those on this thread who feel comfortable dealing out that sort of punishment for this sort of crime, I will say it again. I find you CREEPY. And no, this does not mean I don’t think there should be any punishment. But you are way over the top.
once a farm goes into foreclosure, its a legal matter. My son was foreclosed on and the sheriff was involved to serving the papers and the bank checked frequently to make sure the house was not destroyed as long as they were still living in it...over 4 acres in my state gives you a couple of years to live in the house before the owner can be evicted..
Personally, I make no judgement about the people or the pigs.
However, all parties involved should be flamethrowered to death.
Just in case.
Proud granny, my 16 year old grandson got his first deer with bow and arrow a week ago....my family all hunt, if things go real bad, they can feed themselfs venison, rabbit and all the meat they can shoot or get with bow and arrow...some people will starve cause if it isn’t in styrofoam they won’t eat it..
Don't forget the banks. They need fire, too.
If all else fails, send ‘em to Mecca.
Well, addtually, Mr. Newton, I never said it was the guy.
I guess like a lot of Obamabots, you fly to confusion and conclusion.
did you get that real good?
Now you’re scaring me...just a little.
Good hunting, SPORT. I said I have no problem with it.
I just thought the comment, given the circumstances, was rather callous and inappropriate.
So, remember when you bag that big buck, I would have liked to be in your shoes. Hunting is a great sport.
But shooting pigs in a pen - no thanks.
This coming from the feral cat-enabling whackjob....
Hey, why me??
At least we won’t have to wax for awhile.
I offered my neighbor some eggs a while back. She's a city slicker from waaay back. She asked where I got them. I said the chickens had a nest by the house. She gave me that look that says "I'll get my eggs from the store, not from some chicken's ass." And, yeah, her and her kids could starve to death in coastal Oregon...no mean feat.
Congratulations to your grandson....condolences to his future wife. It's in his blood, now. If she doesn't hunt, she'll never understand.
If that many LIVE pigs were on a farm, it would have stunk for a mile around
A good size hog would take the maggots a long time to consume it...There is a way to get rid of the smell, but left to themselves they stink for quite a while..add to that 900 to 1000 dead animals its going to be a long time...and if the pens are not cleaned regularly, the gases emited could have also killed them...
People had died going down into the manure pits due to the gases..
And I think I got close to the buck I was after...he's no dummy. No slacking next year...my sniper's nest will be in tip-top order.
Thanks for the maggots! It is dinnertime here.
Good luck with that buck. If you get it, post the picture!
I never figured out how to post pictures on this site.
This sounds like a case of animal cruelty, certainly, but it also sounds like major stupidity for not selling the pigs, even at a loss.
They’re great books if you just like a good story teller.
James Herriot does a marvelous job of injecting his humor and kind spirit into stories I’d flub, for sure.
Where we used to keep our horses a guy had a few pigs. You’re right.
It’s not too hard, but you have to host them elsewhere. Photobucket works, altho I generally post mine from my flickr page.
Yes, it certainly sounds like several things, and it doesn’t, on the face of it, make much sense. And no, I wouldn’t discuss cats on a bet. Or dogs.
Not quite as fast tho. It would get rid of the disease carcass's
And how would they not know who had the baby?
What kind of self-absorbed morons are they?
Mother's are always thinking about their babies.
I would question whether this might be one of those deals where a feed mill supplies the feeder pigs and the feed, and the farmer just keeps the animals fed and cared for until they reach market weight.
But if they have been dead since August that doesn’t seem to hold water. The feed trucks would have been in there several times since August.
In set-ups as big as this one SOUNDS to be, the hog feeding equipment is automatic. As long as the feed bins out beside the barn have something in them, the feed is supplied to the feeders on an hourly basis.
Gives me brain cramps!
As that old county song says.....A Country Boy Will Survive
All the men in my family 5 and grandsons 8 of the 9 have been hunting at least once....The women look forward to it cause they camp for at least 3 days and some this year it was 10 days...:O) The house is male free...
Just don't marry a city girl that goes icky at the though of moving out of the city....
Fresh eggs from the coop taste so much better than the store bought ones...you can really tell the difference...
yes live pigs also stink, dead pigs make you retch and vomit.....
Still, it is a very entertaining series.... I read the first book and then watched the first three seasons in the early 80s. Just watched them again on Netflix.
BTW, the later seasons are not quite as good. I had a “thing” for Helen (Carol Drinkwater). They replaced her.
Did the owner convert to the ROP? That’s the only reason I can see for abandoning so many innocent animals to such a cruel death. :-(
Pigs have no problem being canibals.
Whoever s responsible for that barbarity should be jailed for a long, long time.
I don't sound too bitter from personal experience do I ;)
The cajun in me says, “la bûcherie!”
At first I thought the entire membership of NOW got together to drink the Kool-Ade after the election.
Pork Shoulders and Boston Butts are on sale at Kroger here this week for $.99/LB, so your number is way off. Doubt the farmer got more than $.35-.40/LB.
Weaponize them as a gift to the Taliban.
Pretty heartless and disgusting. Poor pigs. The guy had an obligation to the pigs to treat them with respect while they are alive. They are God’s creatures, too. And if he couldn’t do that then he should have sold or given them to someone else. If that wasn’t feasible, he should have put them down in a humane fashion, rather than letting them starve to death without food or water.
