I will be handling this thread on a temporary basis only, and as time and health permits. You people are used to - and deserve - more. Hopefully, someone more qualified will step up and take this over. :)

Survivor: Nicaragua is the 21st season of Survivor. It will moving to Wednesday nights this season. In fact, it begins tonight, September 15, 2010, 8/7c.
The theme this season will be Young vs Old. The players will include a former NFL coach (Jimmy Johnson) and an amputee triathlete champion (Kelly Bruno).
From Wikipedia:
Survivor host Jeff Probst, has also announced that the Hidden Immunity Idol will continue to be used in the game. However, as idols have been found too easily the past two seasons (most often by Russell Hantz), or as the show's producers have dubbed it, "The Russell Factor", the idol will be hidden differently. The clues to the idols' locations will be visual rather than written as in past seasons. In addition, the tribes will be vying for control of a new item, the Medallion of Power, that, when used, gives an advantage in a challenge, but is then transferred to the other tribe.
Let's meet the players.
Here are photos of the players.
Listed below are links to player profiles. They include a video clip of the player, which is, unfortunately preceded by a short - but annoying - ad.
La Flor (age: 30 and under)
.
Espada (age: over 40)
Since I’m currently operating without the official ping list, I’ve been able to ping only a few of you.
I would appreciate it if any of you could ping interested parties to this thread. Thank you. :)
Former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson is a contestant this season. Please feel free to ping your list to this thread. :)
Thanks for the effort! I’d volunteer, but I’m inept.. I’m going to miss the first night:o( I agreed to sub in dart league.
Survivor ping!
I’m hopelessly under-qualified to host this thread. Perhaps this will force someone to take it over. :)
If you miss it and can’t record it, you should be able to watch it online tomorrow at the CBS site.
They showed a clip before the ballgame the other day of Johnson telling his tribe that he knew there was no way any of them would ever vote him a million dollars so he would give help to anyone that wanted it to get further in the game.
Please add me to the ping list. I personally know Wendy, by the way and will be cheering her on. She’s an awesome person and I hope and pray she does well on the show.

I was going to ask. I was just waiting for your thread to get going. I really hope I can see it tomorrow but co-workers will blow it. LOL!!
Thought you might be interested in this thread. Best wishes to your friend on the Espada team.......she’s a goat rancher? Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I really admire her military credentials.
Jane is from my neck of the woods so before the 1st show starts I’ll be pulling for her.
My view may change after I get the first look at how she’s doing.
Add me to your ping list, please?
Someone, please add me to the ping list.
Jane is from our hometown of Gaffney, SC. We’ll be pulling for her also. Just found out about an hour ago she would be on Survivor.
Sweet! Nice to see Survivor on FR. With all humility I am Survivor Fan #5 and looking forward to tonights premiere.
If you are in NYC there is a viewing party in Manhattan where a few former Survivors will be. Mad River Grill on 82nd and 3rd Ave. Public event. $5 donation to Wisconsin Alumni group required. Wish I could go ...
Thanks RR! Wendy is a take-charge, do what needs to be accomplished type person. She loves to dance and sing, and loves her animals, all of them! We met via her cat, Dermis.
Thanks for the ping. Almost forgot about it...
I haven’t watched “Survivor” in years. But, I’ll check it out tonight just to watch Wendy.
She named her cat “Dermis”?
Now that I think about it. “Dermis” is the Latin word for skin. (Took Latin in college.) That’s kinda funny.
What?!??!??!?! Your going to miss it?!?!? A dart league?!?!?!
I won’t blow it....... Unless u want me too........ ;)
Thank you for taking this on!
I mostly just lurk, but Survivor just is not as fun without FReeper FRiends.
Here’s my first impressions of the contestants:
Thumbs up Youngsters:
Brenda - hardworker but might have an attitude
Chase
Kelly B - good attitude
NoOnka - could go either way
Shannon - straight forward
Thumbs down Youngsters:
Alina
Jud - idiot surfer dude
Kelly S. - Barbie prom queen
Sash - talk about full of himself
Thumbs up Oldsters:
Dan - Reagan fan and doesn’t like existing politicians but he’s got a bit of an ego going on so maybe a first boot
Holly - video didn’t work
Jill - video didn’t work
Jimmy T - family man and hard worker
Wendy - video didn’t work but who wouldn’t root for a goat farmer
Thumbs down Oldsters:
Jame - toss up either first boot or final four
Jill - video didn’t work but she thinks Colby played smart, oh yeah, like taking Tina to the final was smart?!?
Jimmy J. - nope, he ousted Tom Landry and I’m not very forgiving
Marty - Lance Armstrong fan, nuff said
Tyrone - weird dude
Yve - cougar acting 16
That said, I reserve the right to change my mind after seeing episode one.
I know. Someone called me to sub tonight at Corner Pocket for dart league. Sucks..
“I won?t blow it....... Unless u want me too........ ;)”
:o)
Daniel Ortega is a shoe in for winner. How many times have we thought we were rid of him?
That can't be! Are you sure that's not a typo?????????
Remember, there are two Survivor “seasons” each year.
At least u have Internet now, u can watch it online tomorrow!
There are? I didn't realize that........
I've been having problems with the CBS site too. Most of the time the links work, but sometimes they don't.
I like her.......She doesn't belong on this type of program.
Yes. Dermis was a hairless kitten (Sphynx). His mother ilikes to ride on my shoulders and bites fingers at every opportunity. They are in-your-face cats that cannot be ignored.
Wendy is very competitive. That's what the show is all about IMHO. Wendy has instincts and a personality that definitely make her a contender for this show. She's certainly not the typical woman her age - she is bluntly honest and very enthusiastic about everything she does.
A mountain lion got my last kitty, a manx, 17 years old. Dunbar was in poor health and her wilderness instincts and agility were failing her. Our newest pet, Cleo, is a Maltese/Shitzu mix. She is a great companion to our Siberian Husky. Alyeska (our Husky) looks fierce and intimidating, but she is a real softie, until a stranger approaches. Cleo difinitely lets us know when something’s amiss in our yard. They make a great team. Mr. RR travels so much with our business, it’s great to have my two guard dogs.
Still looking for a good “mouser”. I’m sure one will show up soon.
Has anyone been watching? It’s already aired in a couple time zones. :)
That's sad about Dunbar - not a nice way to go. We've never seen mountain lions here, but have had a wolf at the back garage door area, and bear scat in the backyard. We keep our cats inside. Outdoor cats disappear around here in no time at all.
All 9 of her teammates voted for her.
My manx is walking the keyboard right now so any typos I blame on her. She an insider now days since our big boy is no long with us. She would wander off and he’d have to bring her home. That and she’d always bring live presents. The last slithery one met with my cast iron skillet. Skillet won. Cat is now 100% indoors. She was friends with our Siberian husky (rest in peace, friend), she tolerates the hyper terrier, but little does she realize that one day the ever so chilled newfie is going to get tired of being smacked on the nose and have her for lunch.
Well, that was an interesting episode. The oldsters deserved to lose since they lost most of their water. Geez, how simple was it to pour it and keep the gutter together. As much as I hate to see it happened, they are so going to get Pagonged. Sorry, but Wendy should have kept her mouth shut and Jimmy might have been booted. Idiot surfer dude aka Fabian is the one you want with you at the end...
I thought they nicknamed him Fabio. :)
You’re right. See, cat typo! Fabian, Fabio, whatever he’s not going to be around long enough to grow his golden locks.
I think the biggest clue is who Wendy voted for. It did not appear to be any secret around camp that the coach had a huge target on his back, so Wendy voting for anyone other than the coach shows a total disconnect from the tribe, and likely that no one cared who Wendy was voting for, because whomever it was, it didn't matter.
But wow, you know that Jeff Probst sat in on the editing on the first episode, and said ‘hey, you're going to show that, and you're going to come up with reaction shots. I don't want the audience to think anything other than ‘OMG, you idiot, why didn't you just keep your big trap shut.’
In many past interviews, it's revealed that tribal councils tend to go quite long, what seems a few minutes to us can be hours for tribal members. And there's a big reason for it, it is a goldmine for editors to craft the story after the game is over with, to piece together the trail from the early stages to the finale.
So for anyone to interrupt when Jeff finally says ‘let's get to the voting’, a moment many past survivors have said is a relief, and a signal that sleep is only an hour or so off, it's an absolute shocker. It was a move of desperation, and it felt like it. Now I'm sure that Wendy's a great person, has loads of friends who care deeply for her, but wow, it was like she just banged back five Red Bulls and was really trying to spread her wings.
As for the speculation by others that the oldsters are pretty much out of it, and that tribe will quickly die off, eh, sincerely doubt that. They'll use the medallion next time, take the advantage, and pull off a victory. Least that's my guess...
Overall, love the scenery, like the characters, was pleasantly surprised with the medallion twist and the immunity challenge, as well as having the immunity idol already heading towards play.
Got a kick out of her making fire with the glasses within one hour of hitting camp.
Two sore spots for me with Survivor contestants is so many of them have no clue about making fire or building a water tight shelter.
She laid it on Jeff at TC about practicing. And then he gave them the metal match.
Jimmy T looks to launch a time or two and people may look to get rid of him.
We’ll see.
“...... They’ll use the medallion next time, take the advantage, and pull off a victory. Least that’s my guess...”
The medallion is a two edged sword. Once you use it it goes to the other side.
Using it last night would have been a waste. With the extra bucket lead it looks like they still would have gotten beaten on the puzzle.
Any challenge where it looks like your team can beat them heads up you need to hold the medallion.
Do not be too quick to use power - and give it away.
I understand what you're saying, using it last night wouldn't have made a difference, in theory - who knows if it would have made those working the puzzle work faster had they gotten the pieces first.
I did miss something, if the medallion can be used at any challenge, and if that is the case, the youth would have used it at the next reward challenge, giving back the medallion for the next immunity challenge.
Plus, the other problem with not using it is that if a team loses, that's another floating target on the backs of everyone who said 'don't use it', and in a social game like Survivor, that can be the difference between staying and going home at tribal council.
As an aside, Survivor really needs to add an extra hour to the first episode. I'd really like to see more of the first three days, for both teams, than what they show now. Too often we only get tiny glimpses of how things are going, because they've only got 25 minutes to show us what's going on outside the introduction, the challenge and the tribal council.
Nothing has really matched that first episode of Survivor in the first season, where they didn't really know what they were doing, and yet turned out one of the best starts ever. That extra 40 minutes could break out from the formula they've fallen into and give us a whole lot more insight into how the tribes are doing, give us more characters to follow, and stop so directly highlighting who's going home at the end of the episode.
Won't happen, I know, as CBS needs that lead in to prop up whatever show's going to go off at 9pm, but I can still wish and want.
Las night's episode introduced the Medallion of Power, which didn't help the team it ended up with.
Voted out last night: Wendy (Espada)
Immunity challenge winner: La Flor
Espada Tribe (Blue Buffs) (older team): Dan, Holly, Jane, Jill, Jimmy J, Jimmy T, Marty, Tyrone, Yve
La Flor Tribe (Yellow Buffs) (younger team): Alina, Benry, Brenda, Chase, Jud, Kelly B, Kelly S, NaOnka, Sash, Shannon
Losers: Wendy
Watch last night's episode online
Full tribal council voting - not seen on TV
The official CBS Survivor site has features and videos that you won't see on TV. Check it out.

As mentioned earlier, I will be handling this thread on a temporary basis only. Also, I don't have the original ping list, so I would appreciate it if any of you could ping interested parties to this thread. Thank you. :)
Looks like Wendy didn’t cut the mustard. By the way, if you know her so well, why didn’t you know she would get voted off first? This show was taped months ago.
He'd be the first person I would pal up with only because I'd love to talk football and sports with him. That in itself would be worth getting voted out after a couple days into the competition.......
