Survivor: Nicaragua

Posted on 09/15/2010 2:53:14 PM PDT by EveningStar

I will be handling this thread on a temporary basis only, and as time and health permits. You people are used to - and deserve - more. Hopefully, someone more qualified will step up and take this over. :)

Wikipedia article

Survivor: Nicaragua is the 21st season of Survivor. It will moving to Wednesday nights this season. In fact, it begins tonight, September 15, 2010, 8/7c.

The theme this season will be Young vs Old. The players will include a former NFL coach (Jimmy Johnson) and an amputee triathlete champion (Kelly Bruno).

From Wikipedia:
Survivor host Jeff Probst, has also announced that the Hidden Immunity Idol will continue to be used in the game. However, as idols have been found too easily the past two seasons (most often by Russell Hantz), or as the show's producers have dubbed it, "The Russell Factor", the idol will be hidden differently. The clues to the idols' locations will be visual rather than written as in past seasons. In addition, the tribes will be vying for control of a new item, the Medallion of Power, that, when used, gives an advantage in a challenge, but is then transferred to the other tribe.

Let's meet the players.

Here are photos of the players.

Listed below are links to player profiles. They include a video clip of the player, which is, unfortunately preceded by a short - but annoying - ad.

I’m both a football fan and a Cowboy fan. IIRC, Jimmy was a psychology major and of course we all know he can motivate. He also seems to use common sense - unlike that emotional mishmash the younger team has fallen into.

I like Jimmy Johnson alot! He won't win and shouldn't even be considered a threat to anyone. Due to his professionalism, he won't be lying or cheating or any of that crap that everyone has to do in order to win there...........

I'd love to be on his team if only to be able to talk football, sports and life in general.........The guy is a winner in his life and a respectable person.

As far as the competitions, he'll be a great motivator.......

For the record tho, he looks OLD without his Sunday suit and make-up...........LOL!

I hate that he’s on the show. He comes in with a distinct advantage over the others BECAUSE everyone knows him. That’s just simply unfair. Of course the weaker tribe members gravitate to him, they feel like they already know him.

I don’t think Marty and Jimmy T envy him; I think they resent him. And rightfully so for the reason stated above. They have things to offer the tribe but the other duffuses gravitate to the “celebrity,” diluting their ability/chances to form bonds and establish value as a tribe member.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s nothing personal against JJ. I think it’s bad casting by Survivor. If JJ was one of a whole competition of celebrities that would be OK. Pretty much a level playing field. But this is not in keeping with the spirit of the game.

How many people will be on his side bec they are Dallas fans?
How many people will be on his side bec they are football fans?
How many people will be on his side bec they DON’T want to be known as the guy who voted the football “hero” off?
How many people will be on his side bec they worship “celebrities”?

I hope he’s the next to go.

Good points as always, LG.

My personal “unfavorite” is still A-Hola, though. :)

I like Jimmy J. I’m not a football fan, never have been and never will be. I like how he motivates his tribe before the challenges and how he carries himself around the camp. I’d like to see him around for a while but don’t see that happening. We’ve already seen how early on this game was hard on him health wise. I don’t like Jimmy T or his attitude ditto for Marty. I think their egos are bruised because they don’t have the charisma that Jimmy J. has and it’s screwed up how they planned on playing this game and where they thought they’d stand with their tribe. Most of all I despise A-Hola and want her gone like yesterday.

I watched last night’s episode and for I’m wondering if I’ll find anyone I really like this season - who will make it to the merge.

The young tribe has made it quite clear it’s 5 & 3 and the 3 are one the short list for TC. Time for one of the girls to walk over as the five sit giggling on the beach and say “The final tribal council is three. Which two of you five are first and second to be voted off? If you want to make it to the final three come talk to me.”

And on the older tribe I don’t think Marty and Jimmy T are as smart and full of leadership as they think they are - and Jill is as dumb as they think she is.

You got your wish. I’m not a fan of JJ but I’m more impressed with his attitude and game play than JT’s. JT is a spiteful whiny because he’s not Mr. Big. He’s just down right creepy. They should have booted Dan as he’s weak link. They’ll pay for following JT. I’d hoped they stay around a while but that snarky little power move was the beginning of the end for the oldster tribe.

Jimmy Johnson was the reason to watch! And I thought it was just women that got petty, and jealous.

I do have to say, Fabio, and Nan (black chick, can't remember her name) are making the show enjoyable though!

There was part of me sad to see him go, actually. He seemed to be a class act. But my point was proven, in that people on his tribe were making comments about “I love him” or “people won’t like it that I voted him off” ...not exact quotes but my point was that being a celebrity totally affects the way people interact with that person or with others about that person. It’s not fair to the other members of the tribe he’s on.

Add to that the fact A-hola is THE worst person ever to play Survivor I was ready to see her go even if her tribe had to gang up on her and kill her. I was hoping Kelly B would take her leg off and beat A-hola to death with it. Man! What an grating, obnoxious shi’ite head.

No way will A-hola figure out those clues. She is profoundly stupid.

If you are watching Survivor because of Jimmy Johnson, you don’t get Survivor. Let him go to Dancing with the Stars or some other celebrity crap.

Jimmy J was ready to go. He kept saying how hard it was. He had the experience, got to be in the spotlight again, had a good time, and went happily and with some class.

Why would you not want one of the inspirational figures on your team. It sucks JJ got voted off. Now the old team is clueless about real leadership.
I hope A-hola is gone soon. That was a bogus move to fight over the clue. She’s a nasty woman...

I'd love to see, at the next immunity challenge, when Jeff asks ‘who's sitting out’ for her to put her hand up, and then the rest of her team just stand on the mat and forget to fight for immunity.

BUT, unfortunately, her team isn't that stupid. She could easily buy her way out of a 5 person alliance and settle into a 4 person by simply handing over the immunity idol clues to the three outs on the young tribe and standing back, passing on who the younger tribe's majority will be voting for, and she'd get to pick who goes off next.

But she's not that smart. Her alliance sees her as an easy victory against if they take her to the end, and with three obvious choices to vote out at tribal, they're not concerned at the moment with getting rid of her.

As for the older tribe, they're looking it. It is nice to see a tight community, but for a lot of the members of that tribe, their only hope is to hook up with members of the other tribe and somehow survive to the merge. A huge shame that they've got so many combined reward/immunity challenges this season, it'd be great to see the younger tribe give up power to nab some soap or something silly like that.

“Why would you not want one of the inspirational figures on your team.”

I’m OK with inspirational. My objection is about “celebrity”. It detracts from the game.
