Vanity - Remember When We All Flew Our Flags ?

Posted on 09/09/2010 12:13:42 PM PDT by llevrok

This past Fourth of July, I was struck by how few people in my neighborhood hung out their flag for the day. I recall there used to be flags on every one's porch, proudly celebrating our Indpendence Day. Now, more and more, there are less and less flags.

So now as we approach the 9/11 anneversary, I wonder how many flags will fly again?

Do you recall after 9/11 that there were flags of solidarity flown "every where" - on cars, on houses, storefronts, on men's lapels.

You may also recall a public service announcement that ran for about a year on TV, post 9/11. It was to the effect that some say 9/11 changed every thing and then the camera did a slow fade to a typical neighborhood street where there was a flag on every one's house with the intimation that the large showing of flags was a sign of solidarity.Something indeed had changed.

So I am putting before this august body of FRiends - will you post the colors this Sunday? If not, what is the reason for not collectively showing our solidarity against terrorism? (and please don't say "Obama" as the flags went missing long before that POS became president).

My own opinion is that we again have fallen into the same complacency that allowed us to be attacked 9 years ago. Or the war has gone on too long, or the war is over (that's what I heard Sept 1 from O), or we have not been bombed in 9 years so we can stand down, or my flag might get stolen off my house, or we don't want to offend our new immigrants?, or.........

Just curious. Something has indeed changed.

This house still does. We wear the T-shirts, too. And talk about such things in the grocery lines. The young people around the counters listen intently. They’re making up their minds without saying a word, but they’re listening.

Here in Texas, I still a lot of flags flying. The problem is that far too many of them are the Mexican tri-color.

The troops are in danger and the burning won’t put them in any more danger. It will just give the slime an excuse. All the libs are so upset about this and so concerned about the troops, however, there wasn’t any outrage when military secrets were published on the internet. I think that action may have put troops in danger as well.

We fly our flag every single day. Our neighborhood is pretty good about flying them on holidays, at least. Probably about 10% fly them every day.

One year I gave US Flags as gifts for Christmas, housewarmings, weddings, etc. If you have close friends or relatives who do not have US Flags, it is a good idea for a gift to get one and a pole/bracket mounting.

Obama.

My flag flew until October 29, 2009, when the first Obamacare bill (an unsuccessful attempt) was introduced.

On March 30, 2010, when the final version became "law", I ordered a replacement flag-- the Gadsden. It will fly at least until the end of the ObamaNation (Jan 20, 2013 at the earliest).

On Monday, our line broke on our flagpole when we were raising the flags and of course, there was no place open to buy new line because of the holiday and even if they were open, it was 20 miles away. My daughter said we could wait, I raised hell until it was mended (had a hip replacement recently, couldn’t do it myself). Although I reluctantly took down the Texas flag temporarily to lighten the load on the line, I will always fly my American flag proudly.

We fly ours day and night. We have a light on it. We have lots of items in our house indicating we are Americans and proud of it. We also have our crucifixes that have been with us for years and years so mostly, when someone enters our home the first thing they see is a crucifix on our wall and an American Flag lovingly placed on a shelf.

People get very lazy and take for granted what they have. They had better wake up and if this latest incident with this whole book burning and mosque nonsense doesn’t wake them up...something will and it won’t be pretty.

9-11 coming Saturday. We will NEVER Forget!!!!

EXCELLENT IDEA!!!! Thank you. Have given Manger Sets and Tree Toppers but never thought about giving the Flag. That’s a great idea. They can be expensive and this could help out a lot for those who would love to have one.

Until the pResident of the White House is removed, I will only fly the Sons of Liberty Flag and the Gadsden Flag.

Old Glory is safe and secure behind the front door, ready to fly again when Obama has been regulated to the dustbin of history.

We’ve done the same thing. Only fly the Gadsden Flag. I’ve actually seen people stop and take pictures.

Same here. Always flew the American Flag until ‘the one’ took office - it hasn’t been up since.

Gadsden flag is the only one that flies now.

My husband is a Navy vet, and ours waves prominently on the front of our house. On our drives throughout this part of our state, we’ve noticed an increase in flags, whether it be on a modest mobile home or a mansion. Something is stirring in the air, and it’s more than flags.

I’m in a suburb of Los Angeles — have had a flag on the house every single day and a flag sticker on the car for years. Surprisingly, there are a few more flags popping up here and there — some of them look brand new, like just out of the wrapper.

I hope this holds and grows — some parts of L.A. fly more flags than others. Burbank is one such location — Santa Monica is NOT one of those areas, which is not surprising.
